Sorry NO go, Our club had a meeting with the Nelson Council and were told that they" may "look at a system to keep controll of who gets to use it. But at the presant time it's off limits.

Thanks. So much for government, lock the country up from the people!

Any other public accessible tracks suitable for Level2-3 trips in that area for people on holiday (two wagons Defender/Disco3).

Come for a drive over to Golden bay,Aorere Gold fields track is worth checking out with heaps to look at [ easy these days as had a bulldozer through ] Also the beach from Patonsrock to Parapara is a neat drive

what is the official reason for keeping the road closed? Have they stopped it?
It is a legal road (except for right by the dam) , therefore the council is only a custodian on behalf of the public .
the only wishy washy reason I've been told is to prevent damage to the poorly installed fibre that runs under some of it .
it's a real loss and has been my regular access into Nelson for years.
Nice easy drive , great history and scenery.
