hilux diff/ driveshaft slack

unless you let the clutch out really smoothly there is a sharp knock/ jolt/ slack taken up from the diff.

when I ly under the truck you can move the rear driveshaft a bit so think the prob is in the diff somewhere. its not the U joint I dont think.

Does anyone know what stuff needs replaced? full diff rebuild? Havn't pulled one of these apart before so not sure where to start.

i have the same problem in my truck too but in the front i put it down to small amounts of play in diff, d/shaft slip joint and cvs/axles thats only my theory though

Check the hanger bearing in the middle of the driveshaft the rubber breaks down and they jump around in there a bit.

X2, I had similar problems when my hanger bearing got thrashed out.

Also had similar when 2 of the 3 ujoints were flogged.

So check both out.

Check your gearbox mount while your under there.

how do you check the gear box mount?

Big screw driver or crow bar and try to lift gearbox to check if it comes apart in the rubber to metal join.If theres dirt,mud and stones jammed in there clean all that out as well.
