I am taking the engine and box out of my ln61 surf, i want to do it with the box still attached to the engine to make it loads easier. I'm having trouble getting the gearbox cross member off as it has 8 bolts that attach it to the chasis (4 each side), and 4 bolts that attach it to the gearbox itself, the bolts onto the gearbox are rather difficult to get to, it seems that if you take the front driveshaft off that it will make it easier to get to some of the bolts but in order to get to the drive shaft bolts on the transfer case end you have to remove the cross member first =/. someone please help

sorry, you can get the 2 left ones out but the right 2 wont come all the way out because the mount has a flange thing that sticks out blocking the bolt from coming fully out

there are 4 small bolts that bolt up through the bottom of the cross member into the bottom of the gearbox mount, you may find it easier to undo these and leave the mount attached to the gearbox

Not really it puts a lot of stress on the engine mounts, put a an axle stand or something similar under the g/box or trans case to support it.

Ok
So me and a mate did this today in around 40 mins .
trolly jack/axel stand
17mm socket
12mm
breaker bar
CRC
Step 1.
CRC the crap out of it the night before.
Step 2.
4 bolts holds the trans to the cross member take them out.
jack the trans up about 2 cm.Take of the muffler mount too.
Step 3.
undo the 8 bolts holding the cross member onto the chassie with the 17 and a breaker bar.
Then do the same agian but start from step 3 lol.
its piss easy
