Hi,
I got a 4.8 front diff that i would swap :?:
Don't know how many spiders it's got but going by the amount of cobwebs on it i'd say it'll have at least four
Cheers Richard.

According to the ID tag in the cruiser I have 4.88 4 pinion diffs, I hope to remove the rear one this weekend coming as it has a leaking pinion seal and a bit of a whine. If it is a 4 pinion we could work out a swap of some sorts?

Cruiser/prado, my bad. Mine has G144 diffs according to ID plate

By front do you mean you after a hi pinion?
As front and rear are interchageable in a lux?

After a hilux diff. I always thought they were interchangable....? But I have someone building my diffs for me (installing lockers) and he has found I have two rear nuggets...?

I'd be asking him how he tells the difference?
If its an open diff then it'll fit as far as I know. I have swapped heaps of diffs in and out of my YN60 surf, and have never had any issues

My understanding is open diffs, 2 and 4 pinion are interchangeable front to rear, LSDs only fit the front if you shave the end off the axles. And hi pinion diffs are front only

Sorry fellas but your not quite right 8)

Right here we go.....................
Daniel wants to fit a Lokrite in the rear. He has a 4 spider Lokrite. He also has a Arb for the front. At the moment he has 2x rear lsd 4.8 complete diff heads from a Hilux. I know the housing and the carrier are the same but the crown and pinion ARE NOT. When he gets his hands on a 4 spider front non lsd complete diff I will be able to put the carrier in the rear with the Lokrite and the housing, pinion and ring gear in the front with the Arb. This means that one of his complete rear 4.8 lsd diff heads can stay complete.
Ya with us

sounds like you have a mixture of 4 spider and v6 4 spider units. C & P should still identical, with the exception of the bearings. Side bearings and pinion bearing are different.
LSD diff heads will not work (as you have found out)
I have 2 4 spider rear lockrited diff heads in my pos, both out of LN100 series turbo diesel surfs.

Front crown wheel on left, rear on right.

They have to be different otherwise pinion meshes on wrong side of teeth because rear spins clockwise and front anti clockwise.

No, as Rok says for a std diff the front and rear are interchangable, can't buy front and rear C's and P's as they are both the same, it is only the high pinion that is different.

   Now I feel like a dick    The crown wheel on the left is a high pinion. I been doing a fair bit of thinking about this and it made sense in my little brain.
Spose I'll put my tail between my legs and hide behind my welding mask

Still need a 4 spider carrier tho. :D

Thanks for all the info everyone. Has clarified a few things for me. I was a bit confused for a we bit there!!
But i have managed to track down a 4 spider carrier in palmy.
Now to get it to the better island and get these diffs back where they belong!
