For a Toyota novice what were the diff ratio's of the solid axle prado's ? most seem to be either the early 2.4 diesel or the later 3.0 diesel . Don't have one so don't know the diff codes .
Cheers
Chris

Its dependant of engine size... not wheel base....
2.4 lj's have 4.88
3.0 KZJ have 4.3
Cheers Calvin

yes and the best bit is the 2.4 diffs into the 3ltr = 35's with no power loss.
but remember if it is on open diffs the ring and pinion are the same as hilux so there is a huge range of ratios to swap in. the e-locker is an odd ball, thick ring gear and a little harder to find but not to bad if you get them ex USA.

Mike I think you will find its the other way around....
The factory 4.88 have a different offset in the bearing / carriers and have thinner rings....
The e lockers all run a std r and p compatible with the hilux range....

I thought the fronts were a high pinion and it was an odd ball in toyota diffs ?

Unsure on the front......But the rear....
I know cause I swapped my 4.3 diffs front and rear for a set of open 4.88 off an LJ...
Just threw the front in whole..
But wanted to strip out the rear ring and pinion for my e locker....
Nope 4.88 was too thin...
Did some research and found out what the issue was....
Sold off the 4.88 diff and used the cash to buy in an r and p from the states.
And put that in the e locker....
Still not sure if the front has the same issue as I just swapped the whole pumpkin over.
Apparently its the only odd ball toyota diff out there...

I had a full set of LJ prado diffs from a LWB 2.4 diesel under my E class. They were 4.88's. Rear nugget is interchangeable with Hilux. Front is high pinion, and may be interchangeable with 80 series front. Fronts are strong going forwards, but I was warned not to give it sh*t reversing uphill or out of a mudhole.
PM nomis9 or talk to Dwayne (Howie's navigator) - both wreck toymota's and know all the diff ratios out of the different models.

Not true Calvin.
The 4.3 e-locker is the "V6 style" Cw & P. Tis stronger and thicker.
I bust a tooth off my pinion, I think via snatch towing, and had to replace mine. A mate had a conventional 4.3 which we managed to fit, but it was not simple. The shimming became hugely different and involve a fair bit of work on a Lathe.

Ahhh so there is a difference between V6 style and Std hilux?
I just thought they ran bigger bearings in the carrier.. and r and p were the same....sweet....
I know the KZJ's run V6 rear diffs...being diesels....

Calvin after busting the pinion on my elocker, took it to an expert who said is the odd ball one, need to get the v6 one. this is from the US market in the tundra I think. not common here at all. could not get one at the time in the country.

O.k quick review
Rear diffs.....
Early Prado LJ 2.4 2LTE engine has factory ratio 4.88 (odd ball thin r and p)
Hilux (well call these std r and p)
Early Prado KZJ 3.0 1KZTE engine has factory ratio 4.3 (thick V6 r and p )
E lockers have V6 (thick r and p)
No idea whats on the front just know its reverse cut high pinion.....

The thinner crown wheels come in the earlier generation heads (70's and 80's) the thicker ones come in the later diffs, most changed to the thicker ones in 1989 when the new models of hiace, hilux and surf came out except the prado which had a heavy housing head right from the first model in 1985 but still used the skinny crown wheel, the earlier 3vzn61 3 door v6 surfs that only came out in america in about 1986 used the same diff hence the name v6 heavy duty head, The heads changed again in the late 90's.
They are correct about the 2.4 prados all having 4.8's and the 3 litres using 4.3's. The beam axle prado front diff is a high pinion G series 8 inch head with reverse cut gears the same as the vx 80 series cruiser uses (except the cruisers run 4.1's).
