Well the parts are here and all I have to do is put them in

Will take pics and a quick write-up of how easy it was
The parts so far after Brian (Howat Engineering) did his magic converting the Chev distributor to Rover/Chev distributor, some new leads with HEI ends and some new Platinum Plugs

It must be the old girls birthday

Will be putting in x2 distributors into 2 Disco's tomorrow, so hopefully will have pics and some knowledge at the end.....

Very VERY easy Brett, a complete "drop in", I will get pics on tomorrow.
First off, I had to remove and cut down the engine lift bracket on the back of the power steer pump, then put back pump and bracket. The dizzy was already out, as you have to give Brian the new distributor and the old one so he can make one out of the two. That was the two hardest things to do out of it all
I then test fitted the HEI and she fits absolutely perfect, no grinding needed, at all. For a constant good power supply, I am going to run a "hot wire" from the batt to a relay and then directly to the HEI unit. I will use the original coil feed to switch the relay and just for safety's sake I will put a circuit breaker in between the batt and relay. Wiring is in place, just have to spend tomorrow night soldering all the tabs on.
I would of had all the leads on, but, this morning I took the cap off to test fit the distributor and noticed the bakerlite mold is cracked where the coil seats

, so I will have to get a new cap asap. Also I will have to change the radiator hose but that's no biggy.
It is a much easier change over than I thought and I really can't wait to get this thing going.

What plugs are you going to be running?
The Hog has had LPG in the past and I'm not sure of what should be in him

I've removed the Lpg and I'm keen to get back to the standard set up or a better set up for petrol.

Its got an lpg system in it but its not working. I'm thinking of removing it cause at the moment its just extra weight being carried around.
Not really sure on plugs most likely keep using the generic repco brand, they seem to work. I should really put new ones in and open the gap up to 0.050.

Hi Brett
I've gone with NGK Platinums, got a pretty good deal here in NZ, check this guy out on TradeMe.....he has them for the Disco/Rangies

just watch what you stick in them coz they always end up condensating inside with the heat

I run my ECU in one, to keep it a tight fit I have a big sponge in it, helps with the condensation. Pulled it the other day to swap ecu and sponge was bone dry

I have a couple of big packets of those Silica Crystals, ya know the ones in the little white packets you often find in box's of new stuff, just bigger versions of those.
The Silica Crystals are ideal as they absorb huge amounts of moisture in comparison to their size and don't release it. They don't ever become "full", the crystals just keep on growing the more moisture they absorb.
Good cheap fix for condensation in ya ECU box

I used to put those packets in my old GTB Subaru Legacy's headlights, they where always getting condensation and those little packets worked like a charm, changed them every oil change.
With my job I can get the big packets, wallet size packets....great for the fuse box or placing ontop of my relays

Looking Good
I need to replace my power steering pump, so well I have it out I'll alter the brackets and do the grinding for the new Dizzy. Did you just remove the engine lift bracket or cut it?
Cheers Brett

Hi Brett, I cut the engine lift bracket as it is quite thick, close to 5mm by memory. I did remove it to start with but when the belt went on it seemed to look slightly twisted between the pulleys so I cut and reinstalled the bracket, just keeps the belts looking straight and not out of line

I did the grinding while in the truck, easy to grind a little install dizzy check the cap, grind a little install dizzy check the cap....and so-on until she was looking perfect

The bracket is alloy so I just covered the radiator and other bits with old rags to collect the grind, very quick and easy
Are you going for a new pump or 2nd hand? I can get a new one for $135-150 or you can have a 2nd hand one that I pulled off a parts truck for $20 including freight......PM me if interested.....

Yeah thought about doing it that way, have lots of spade terminals, but just for piece of mind I decided to go the correct plug route....I really don't want to loose power half way up a steep bouncy track with a spade terminal working it's way out
