hey all, anyone got an old 7.62x39Norinco SKS/Bushmaster, .223 or similar surplus to requirements.
I'm after a cheap bush rifle that I can cull some Smellys with (cant keep borrowing my mates .222) stock condition unimportant, with or without a scope is fine. just something thats suitable for bashing around the jungles of Taranaki with

was after one of the jw103 on special at gun city this weekend for $299 but the 13 year old salesman I got on the phone couldn't find any of the 4 listed on the computer

cheers for that, Yeah sks is on the cards new @ the $350-400 mark so thats my upper limit for a rough bush gun. personally Id prefer a bolt action (dont like semi's) but I know I wont get much for that sort of coin but realistically I will only be goat hunting 1/2 doz times a year at the most so having a more expensive toy doesn't make sense  read mrs might get grumpy

Overkill, but you could easily get a .303 for that, chopped down they are pretty ideal bush guns.

first thing I did was tear down everything and clean it ... 4 years sitting in sig's gun case left it needing some TLC, got a heap of crud and crap out of the trigger assembly and unstuck the firing pin (prob why it slamfired!!?) , polished the pin guide and pin to a mirror surface and ordered a browns spring loaded pin from the states to make sure it never slamfires again , off to a mate farm tomorrow to sight in the scope and check everything's working the way it should then off smelly hunting Wednesday night
