I'm thinking of installing it on my car but was wondering if anyone here has used it and if so what sort of issues did you have how easy or difficult was it to set up, what do i need to know before i jump in.

I have seen assembled kits for sale on trade me which is what i was thinking of buying

various mates have used them on their cars , 1uz 4age 3sge toyota motors with very mixed results, some never got them running 'right' and so worked like a microtech or a link would, i personally like the microtech with handcontroller

but if your on a budget do it, or if your on a budget and are very electronically minded build it yourself too...

Are you running both the fuel and spark.
As a tinkerer am i likely to find it easy or difficult

Im running one in my Landcruiser, bought it with a 1uzfe tune so was just wired up and away you go. Runs great and less than half the cost of Links etc.

Built two , never finished a tune :) .
91 Range rover part tuned before it was sold . Getting better than factory fuel consp , fuel only . Then put it in the suzuki with a ca18de to prove an issue . Fuel and spark but never tuned off idle .

I would say unless you build it and figure out what its doing , look for another computer . Also you would not want to chop up the wiring on that merc too much . Could do what I did with the rangie , got an old ecu , ripped the guts out and used the plug on that as an interface to the megasquirt . You can buy plugs for them these days but mostly american and japa's so far , when I last looked anyway .

theses cars came out with the old Bosch k jetronic mechanical fuel injection not much in the way of electrics so not much of a loom. heaps of vacuum lines and other stuff that is difficult to diagnose with out replacing everything one piece at a time.

have read online of guys fitting megasquirt to replace there old fuel injection and loving the results

So are you going to remove the mechanical injection and convert to electronic with the Megasquirt? Big job I would have thought.

Nice Merc by the way.

Matt.

yeah it won't be an easy job but i like a challenge and if it increases the performance of my car what have i got to loose i am lucky in that i have a spare engine to assemble the injection on before i fit it to the car itself

now that is just cheating, but a good way to do it, can make brackets to hold crank sensors and the like, suggest you get a hall switch crank sensor for Diyautotune.com, save heaps of grief with crank signals, are you going with wasted spark setup?

i'll get the fuel injection sorted first then think about the ignition side of things

done some more reading and think i will just go with an EDIS setup for the ignition but that won't be till a little further down the line.

i have also learnt it is possible to run megasquirt without modifying the original wiring harness in these cars which goes to show how much electrical stuff is involved in the original fuel injection
