Gday i am looking at ditching the surf too flash and too much of a guzzler and buying a double cab navara with a non turbo td27 engine.
Is it easy to put a turbo on?
Is a stock turbo the best or is there a better option thats still affordable??

What do you think of this one?
Any advice would be great

hey mate, Turboing these is relatively easy, hardest part would be drilling new oil return(i think it is) into the block. they go a shit load better than td27 non turb, and from your surf, if it was 2.4 turbo, youll notice a huge difference + reliability!

i like these rigs.. looks good and the price seems sweet..

drilling into the block for an oil return seem excessive though, sure into the sump would be easiest?

hopefully this chap will chime in on thoughts. the most capable navara i've seen.. although he's bastardised it something wicked.. lmao... from memory, he changed out the entire engine..

i have a 95 ssrx 1kzte atm used to own a terranno with a turb td27 shouldnt have gottten rid of it good economy so thats why i am looking at this its for work (im a builder) and long distance driving as i live and work in chch but might be moving out to oxford in the next few months.
Now iv heard a bit about these gearboxes being a lil on the weak side is there a replacment gearbox that is better or a box from another vehicle thatll fix this problem? just in case i break it

Would the non turb take a turbo quite happily? meaning i wont be going too crazy up to 12psi absolutely max and will throw an intercooler onto it would that handle it?
I would rather put a turbo on than buy a whole new engine seems to be alot cheaper that way?

They are fine turbo'd, Sibainmud had a non turbo engine, slapped a turbo on it, ran 18-20psi all day long and only damage was to the turbo's themselves. If im not mistaken the non turbo td27's are actually slightly lower compression than the turbo ones. And 12psi should be sweet without an intercooler, they run 10 standard. goodluck

Just get the turbo,injector pump,inlet and exhaust manifolds,oil block for the oil filter this has the turbo lines ect.The only difference with the injectors is a shim that changes the release fuel preasure And you don't have to tap the block or sump for oil return, just check your compression befor you turbo if it is low you could have problems.
