power lite on 91 safari

Post by glued »

hiya guys.
I have a LWB 91 auto safari which has just starting playing up.
After a 300km drive on friday the power lite stayed on when I started the truck and it wouldnt turn off,it actually was revving like in neutral?
It came right after a few seconds, but has me a little worried.
Also, after doing an oil/filter change it is hard to start from cold,I have to glow the plugs maybe 3 to 4 times before it will start, then it will splutter and stall, then will be hard to start and blow black smoke till its warm, then it runs fine..........Am i in for a big bill?
I love the safari and how solid and reliable they can be.
I tipped it on its side a few weeks back, when we righted it,there was almost no damage, just crushed flares and a dented front guard and rear quarter.

Sounds like glowplugs or associated relays timers etc for the spluttering on start up.
Whip them out and bench test them. They're not the expensive to replace.

All relays are next to driver side battery, replace glow plugs after that glow plug controller is located in drivers foot well black box. Bleed screw on diesel pump open then pump, of crack injectors then turn over.
GU patrol 35s ect.

cheers guys.
I tried that link after a long search here today, dead and buried by the looks of it........bugger.
So chances are my trans is on the way out,I had just bought a kit for it too.
So its fairly easy to bleed a diesel, ive never done it at all or seen it done, feel a bit fkn stupid actually as it should be one of the first things you learn about a diesel when owning one
If i had instructions or a pic id be sweet to have a go at sorting the minor issues,as im a poor bastard i dont have alot of coin to spend.
Thanks again guys.If anyone wants to trade panel/crash/paintwork for work on my truck,im always keen to barter.

Where are you located? Someone on here may be able to come and show you how to bleed it and assist you with a few other questions that you will have.

Cheers
