Taranaki Challenger

Kia Ora everyone. New member to the forum. its been pretty usefull so far. I got a 97 Challenger that i stared pissing round with, not doing anything to hard out, just tryin to learn as i go. pretty much got rid of all the hangy bits, sidesteps, guards. just finished doin a 2 inch suspension lift today, the stock gear was sagged as. pretty much with the DH bikes on the bak it was hittin the bumpstops. so got the new coils and longer shocks in, and longer shocks in front, cranked up the torsion bars.

Im using it 90 percent as a road truck, dont do much driving cos im on the farm, but wanna use it for the mountain, shuttling my bike, campin, carting shit etc. bit o light wheeling
as it is wound up its pretty much touching the upper bumpstops. been seein about the ball joint flip. is this hard to do? do i need to do it? what about strain on cv's and stuff?

Any help would be appreciated, as i wanna get a alignment soonish, but if its a good idea to do the ball joint flip first, i will tuk into that
Cheers

Hey mate, was it just 2" springs for your lift? Let us know what size tyres you were able to fit with just that lift!

One thing I would recommend, is grind off the the end of exhaust pipe too on a angle if need be. I got it jammed coming down off a bank the other day. - couldn't go forward or back.

oh good to know. yeah mine angles down and hangs out a wee bit. wil get the grinder out this weekend.
coulda done the lift with just the springs i spose, but my shocks were rooted too so had to get some new ones, so got ones that are slightly longer to make up for the lift. was all cheap stuff off trade me. springs are cobras, 30 percent uprated on OE apparantly. shocks are just KYB excel-g's, cos they were pretty cheap. all up it cost me $850 for the lot. springs were $260 for the pair. goes nice. heaps better than bouncin round on the bumpstops haha.
just runnin 31x10.5x15 A/T at the moment cos i use it for the road a lot. shoppin round for some 33s but dunno how much they will scrub. depends on offset i spose. wot u runnin?

a safari or landcruiser offset will give you a wider track

Cheers for the info snugs.

I spoke to Wayne a while back and he's the man regarding to get it running on 33's, there's quite a bit of work involved, rather than just a lift going by what he said. Shock mounts, and other stuff - far beyond me and my shiny adventures.

That's why I was wondering about 32" tyres with what ya got.
The above is just a wish list at the mo, got christmas and a new boat to buy first!
What ever ya do, put a few picks of ya wagon on here for lurkers like me!

must remember that, I only have 31" at the moment and they are quite close to front suspension as it is, with out going to a wider tyre.

boat sounds good bro. mite try and sneak that idea past the goalie at some stage
wil chuck some pics up soon.
how have your tow hooks held up? have they had a workout yet? was lookin at how i should mount some and seen your thread. seemed like the best way to go about it. what did you do with that factory tow hook on the front? just use that, or cut it off and put on a proper one?

cheers for you help

Ha, yeah the front tow hooks have definately had a work out. Have been out with the Manukau Club a couple of times, and have become very familiar with the back of Phils Safari, glenns rover, peter's wrangler ......... you get the drift :D

The front hook is on the drivers side (less metal to grind off), and so far the factory one still on the other. Will eventually do the same.

Ghetto as haha
Cruiser or patrol wheels will prob be a bit wide for what you want a. If i was you I'd get a set of new 31" or 32" mud tyres an some new rims. Won't find much at the wreckers have a look on 4wdbits.co.nz think that's right?

I'm not home for Xmas but will be round end of Jan, pm me your number
