hi there, i want to swap bodys from my 1994 3.5l hard top to a 3l
soft top version to save weight for offroad use! i only use the truck off road so have time to do it but don't want to cut my original body in half.
does anyone know of any known issues involved in a body swap?
cheers and thanks

Just a thought, if you were to do that, you'd probably have to put suitable strengthening in it anyway, so it may not actually be a reduction in weight

was gonna put a cage on the back and close the rear off, and i think you save a bit of weight since the rear door weigh's on it's own 75kgish

Why would he have to do that? Factory soft top... not cutting anything...
But yes the bodies will swap straight over. However the loom will most likely need changed from one vehicle to the other so it is not just a weekend job...

Don't most clubs have a rule that soft tops need a cage on the back anyway?
And doesn't the factory add strengthening too?

what youi reckon how long will it take with loom swap? and do you know if i have to take engine out?
and yeah factory adds strenght too and i was gonna close rear off, put a hilux window in and put a cage on the rear

it actualyy wouldmt surprise me if theyre very similar in weight because many convertable cars are heavier than there hard top version
e.g
2007 Mustang GT Coupe curb weight (lbs) 3,351
2007 Ford Mustang GT Convertible curb weight (lbs) 3,613.
