Help!! rear axle shaft wont go back in

hey guys changed both my back wheel bearings today and now passengers side axle wont go back into place, sits about 40mm out from where it should, the splines not catching,

ive tried filing down splines a bit to get to line up and nothing,

any suggestions as im booked on a 8.30am ferry tomorow morning :roll:

wiggle wiggle wiggle,how can you tell splines aren't catching with diff head in?they can be a pain sometimes but you'll get it
1990 surf 350 chevy jacked up and currently under construction again

Turn the Pinion Fange as you insert the Axle

pretty sure i had mushroomed the head of the axle a bit, causing splines to be too wide to fit into the center.
I grinded off a wee bit around the first 10mm of axle/spline ( :shock: :shock: ) and she popped in first try after that, much easier than the past hour with a tiny little file trying to get it to work,
