pajero pto's

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
How many pto's are around for the pajero . You used to see them around a bit but not so much now . Anyone got one ? I am thinking about using one on a new project .
What to bolt it up to an auto box so if anyone knows where one is let me know .

Cheers Chris

They bolt to the transfer but an auto raises problems as when neutral is selected in the transfer the auto spins and you have problems engaging dog clutchs.
They only mate to the gears in the early, leaf sprung pajs and as they run on the reduction gear the different ratios in the later T/C wont mesh
Pajs have a poor low range, less than 2 : 1 reduction, so if you fit crawlers thry wont mesh.

So that means the pto portion must be on the input side of the t/case gears . Still I do not quite follow why the gears will be spinning , putting the auto into netural or park would stop the gears I expect . Still I could live with a manual . Yeh I see they are 1.975 or there abouts , I hope hi is 1.1 , that makes it about the same as a suzuki

Bugger the diffs are 4.8ish , means you would need 5.29 lux heads for sure .

Its all therory until I find one anyway .

I have one on my paj its a nice light pto theres two issues with it... the drive shaft is on the drivers side  the only PTO I've come accross with this... I think you can get around this with a little engineering
The other issue is the gearbox they bolt up to the five speed is a piece of shit all it is, is Galant internals with a slightly beef'er housing, you start getting abusive with it and it'll die :( oh and don't think you'll just swop in galant stuff they are a bastard to work on... the other issue I had with it and why its gone... the driveline slip joints are the gearbox driveshaft yoke sliding on the output shafts from the transfercase and the oil seal works to the outside of the yoke  what it means is if you lose or have to remove a driveshaft you can't drive it or you'll loose all the oil out of your gearbox

Trust me don't waste your time on the paj box Chris... the winch thats a bute and I'm pretty certain it can be swopped to passanger side input and it dosn't weigh anything near the cruiser ones :D :D If your down this way give me a call and I'll show ya on mine

So what you are saying Reece is the gearbox is a piece of crap but the pto is good ?

From what I can find out the pto fits to the t/case so was looking at using an auto of the diesel . Also the output on the drivers side makes sense as there front drive is on the left .

Cheers
