turbo recondition dunedin.

was driving back from kaikoura this morning and it seems i have done something to my turbo.. in my 2lt surf. when my turbo light came on a huge loud whinding screach came so i stopped turned my truck off then checked everything oil water etc. then turned it back on and it seemed to be fine. i ask my brother who said if you think its the turbo get it recond in dunedin. anybody know any places there that can reconditioon a turbo or have any idea what the problem might have been

if the turb lite comes on it means that something has melfunciond like the oil or water feed stoped. i might of had a blockage in the turbos oil feed and the bearing may have dried up and screamed. that would probs be the only thng that would do that and then run fine again. if you want to check the bearings pull the air intake pipe off and see if you can wiggle the main shaft with your fingers. it should have max 0.5mm of movement. hope this helps.

There is a guy in Waipara who does a good job ...if your in kaiapoi he isnt too far from you .

how skilled are you in the workshop? i rebuilt my turbo myself. i brought a kit it had the bearings, seals and i got a new terbine cause it had chips missing off the old one :? . It cost me $160 all up and got busy in my work shop. took bout 2-3hours but time flys when you have fun. its not that hard just rember where every thing went. you will save bout $700 $800 on labor. and i wasnt prepared for some wally 8) to work on such a important part of my engine.

hi guys thanks for the info and places youve said and recomended m. i got to dunedin fine from kaiapoi without any turbo troubles but i did happen to get my t.belt light come on after i went over 300thou k's so i went to the local mech. so another 300 to 500 dollars on top of trying to fix my turbo... uhhh also hard l200. my brother and farther are very handy ywith cars ill put it to them to seem if they can fix or recon it cheers gbh.U
