rubber engine mount problems. whats ur thoughts?

hi
i have a ln130 surf that i have just put a 1uz into it and my mate has a d/cab ute with a 1uz in it also
we both using same rubber engine mounts
mate has done about 2000ks since he fitted engine and he has ripped both of his mounts clean off where the stud plate is glued to rubber (see attached photo below has ripped where red arrow is)
because i using same mounts as him i dont want this to happen to me so this is where u guys come in:
is there a stronger solution using different materials?
have heard that having a crush tube in centre of mount is clased as being solid mounted which is fine but then have to solid mount gearbox too which means nosie transfer - not want i really want?
due to the whole engine setup being done new mounts need to be same size (currently 50mm high) so factory rubbers dont fit as 80mm high and 1 stud comes out on angle
any ideas why they broke? wat would you use?

Why did they break.....Thats easy....too much loud pedal
But seriously, that style of mount is solely relying on the rubber bonding to stop it over twisting.
Most factory mounts have a setup that when over twisted or pulled they bottom out metal to metal to stop you tearing the mount apart.
Also its a fail safe to hold the mount in place if the rubber does rip apart.
I am sure those with 1UZ installs can elaborate on their choice of mount.
A quick fix could be to attach a limiting hoop / bracket so it stops it moving too far when pulled apart.

Yep, Chain it in to stop the mount overflexing. Failing that you will need to replace the mounts with something else.

theres a lot of old threads about engine mounts in the archives you can have a look through to get some ideas

When I first put the 1uz in my hilux I used the original style hilux mounts (new ones)

I knew they had a tendency to fail, I ripped one in two with the original 89 horsepower 3y

So I fabbed up some captive mounts, now even if the nolathane was to fail the engine can't fall out
They really are the best type of mount for offroad abuse.

that where i brought these mounts from as thats what they personally recommended. would they do same style but captive?
looks like i may have to make some mounts similar to others that have posted up (which will be a bloody prick cos cant move engine at all with everything else custom made)

I'm pretty sure the early 40 series cruisers engine and gearbox mounts were a round rubber ring with a bolt right through the centre simular to what you've already got so that might be worth looking into as an easy fix
