hey

my old fj40 brake booster and master where buggered,so i replaced the system with a 2nd hand fj40 booster and 1994 hilux master clyinder,the brakes where really hard and the truck would hardly stop,so today in replaced the booster with a 1994 hilux one and now the pedal is soft.

is this air in my lines

or

not enough vacuum for the booster

Do the brakes still work, even though the pedal is soft?

i kant get it out of the garage atm to test it properly but i put a jack under the back diff n pushed the pedal and the stoped instantly

bleeding them is a pain, done a few nights with my sons 40

have a look at both cylinder bore sizes to see if theyr different. bigger will put more pressure on brake components, smaller wont have enough omph to get everything working hard enough.

Why not put a factory booster and master cylinder back on, problem solved? If I remember right you have discs on the front? so bleeding would be very easy.

i would of but i got given the 94 hilux one and thought it would work,

The pedal would've been hard with the other booster cos it prob had a vacuum leak.
What were the brakes like before you fitted the hilux parts?
How's your rear drum brake adjustment? Check that then rebleec the system, shouldn't be too hard to bleed at all..

the brakes before the hilux parts where crap as the orginal booster and master clyinder where buggered.could it just be that theres stil air in the master clyinder?

well after day at woodhill my brakes were fine when we left ( standard ln106 hilux brakes) as the day went by my brakes got worse and worse till my pdal would bottom out and id barely be slowing down, so i started on rear first and replaced new shoes and new slaves cylinders in the back nd got half my pedal back (thi is aafter i re bled everything) so im guessing once ive rebuilt calipers and new discs and pads my brakes hsould in theory be better than they were

i finally got to drive the fawty,and the brakes are either on or off,and you have to press the pedal along way down before anything happens.it fells like most of thr pressure is going to the front (discs)

close but wrong,

smaller master= more travel, softer pedal, less fluid displaced

bigger master=less travel, harder pedal, more fluid displaced
