Project WHOOPS Pajero

Hey guys, brand new to this site and also 4x4ing, never been out but after inherited this 4x4 thought id give it ago..

Im planning to get a lift kit, tyres and snorkel but what else can I do?

Its a 1993 3.5L SWB, Cheers!

Haha a very blunt reply from Jerry there! I would start with an the interior. After that there are heaps of things you can do to make a paj a bit better look at njv6's project pajero build in the project section

Welcome, firstly I'd recommend seats :wink:

Get the basics right first - Rated tow hooks front and rear (10,000lbs) and rated recovery gear - couple of 4.5T shackles, 9mtr strop, 2kg fire extinguisher, spade, first aid kit, basic spares - the usual requirements of any club trip.

My next bit of advice would be to join your local 4x4 club - you will learn heaps just going to meetings and on trips with experienced 4x4s. Heaps to choose from where you are (think Shore 4 wheelers would be closest).

Thanks heaps, i have all the interior for the thing just took the carpet out bcoz think there is a leak somewhere thinking the sunroof, so getting that all repaired...

Also thanks alot for the advise for basic setup..

Im really keen to lift the thing to the best height which hopefully i'll be able to find on this forum, also some new wheels tyres...

welcome to my world.

open your sunroof and check the drain pipes are all unblocked (pour water down them)
i've got a leak somewhere in the front left corner of my pajero. have had guard off and siliconed up a saggy wiring grommet, checked everything. only thing left is the actual screen leaking now.

I put a set of 2" lift cobra springs in the back of mine. 2" is the most you will want to lift the front, as you won't be left with much room for the front to droop.

I'm in Taka - PM me if you wanna come round and have a geez - I got the same truck...

Oh Awesome dude, might be keen to have a look.... getting so many answers on lifting the truck haha but got a mate who has a set of wheel and tyres for me 35s but thinking it'll be to big unless i lift it 4-5"?

You will need to do a body lift to fit 35"s (and for 33" tyres too depending on their width), and depending on what rims they are on, you might need to do a bit of trimming too.
The main thing that puts me off going to 35" (I've got 33"), is the gearing, as she gets a bit bogged down turning the 33"s, and the poor old steering seems to struggle a bit too. Mind you, not all 35"s are the same, perhaps if they are smallish 35"s, they would fit better.
Pretty much impossible to get 4-5" lift from the front of a Pajero. I've done a ball joint flip and have trimmed the bump-stops, and that gets me about 2.5" worth of lift with some down-travel left over. Any more down-travel than that and the tie-rod ball-joints start to bind.
I reckon it's quite important for the suspension to have a reasonable amount of down-travel (droop) from static ride height otherwise the wheel will keep lifting plus the ride quality would be horrible.

Really appreciated for the info guys.... might have to come see ya pjb.... bcoz really would like the highest i could get out of the paj but all comes down to cost aswell... :)

Are you wanting to go high for offroading or for looks?

33's on a Paj is where its at with gearing (as said) and i'd just give it a body lift (if req'd) without going overboard on height...

A factory rear locker is the cheapest most effective way to get places in a Paj.

Hey NJV6

Its abit of both really, i love the look of some trucks that are high of the ground, but ill also be using it for 4wding anyway, so you reckon go for the 33s with a 2' body lift? would this be the way to go?

As the others have said, I wouldn't go over 33's with standard gearing. This was my paj running standard SWB nissan safari springs in the rear, the front had reindexed and wound up torsions with trimmed stops and balljoint flip (and spacer)
Tyres were 32". It went surprisingly well for open diffs. This pic may have been with the hight adjustable suspension in "high".....yes mine still worked :shock:
Oh and the 3.5's allready have a small factory body lift compared to the 3.0

just sorting out my lift kit, getting 2' body lift and getting some prices for suspension lift, can't wait :)

lol sounds like its going to be a mission, but thats what projects are all about :)

but have now gone for the simex extreme trekkers 2 just waiting on parts from george stocks then its all go lol

I have a mate that runs a tyreshop in glenfield who has helped me with the tyres and will help me lift the truck..

been having abit of trouble finding parts for lifting it as george stock dont stock the parts so trying autolign...

with the offset on those rims again unsure haha i know they are 15x10 but will find out offset for ya when I talk to him next

Mag and turbo do Cobra, which do a 2" lift spring for the pajero, and King springs do a 2" lift coil - I think ripco might be the agent for king...

Those 15 x 10's are big offset, I put a set on mine on 35's for shits and giggles... Couldn't turn the steering wheel 1/4 of a turn of straight!

Sorry guys been playing with another car of mine and poor paj was just left doing nothing, after my mate brought one it kinda kicked in again...

so I've done a 2" body lift with some 15x10s and some 33s and 15x10 with 33 spare wheel not seen in photo tho

Got a nice winch and front bar to come should be expecting this in sept...

Unbolt the front bumper and move it up-you will see where it binds a bit with bracketry. Modify and remount and then clamp and electric glue the mounts (tack weld only). Dissasemble and clean and weld-grind and finish and paint. I have done lots of body lifts-but as you probably have found, 40mm is the ideal for easy of fit etc. Cheers Muzza Alpine Engineering.

You can do the same procedure with the frame 'horns' to mount the new front bar (if it is a factory bought one)
