Fitting Winch to KZJ78

Post by Henry »

Hi

I have recently bought a KZJ78. I am looking at fitting a winch inside the front bumper between the chassis rails.
I have measured between the chassis rails and that is 610mm. I have had a look at the winch specs and some are approx 580mm or so.

That looks like that will fit. or is there something else to consider?

Thanks Henry

The problem with hiding the winch away behind the bumper is that when the rope bunches on one side and jams ups , you have no way of getting in at the winch .

I have an Warn xd9000i tucked up in there.
No issues to date.
Had to re orientate the free spool handle, just undo all the cap screws and rotate.
Bit awkward to get to but doable. And I haven't trimmed anything.
I have a custom bumper / bull bar....
And the winch is mounted on a flat plate which is attached hard up to the underside of the chassis rails.

You can see it in this shot.
ignore the one with the donut its my mid mount pto winch.

Or go pto. you can also trim the bottom of the grill to get better access if you find you didn't build enough in. and yes thats what I did.
There are a few imports using bolt on mounts that look almost factory for electric winches.

From memory mine is 5 or 6mm steel plate...
Attached to the two holes on bottom of each chassis rail and also has a vertical tab which I use to attach thru the large horizontal hole at the fwd end of the chassis rail.
Also its attached / incorporated into my bull bar.
The rear edge of the plate is reinforced so it wont bend easily... (flange / turn up)
Can throw up some pics if interested.
