Supercharger GSXR set up

Setting up a supercharger for a G16a.
Who has done it.
Need tech advice/photos
I got an SC12 from trademe.
I was hoping to combine this with a GSXR 600 carb setup.
Only after moderate boost pressure, but combined with GSXR side draft 4 barrell carbs, should go...

No one seems to be replying to my posts hmm...
Also considering a 16v EFI engine swap with the blower.

i have just put a turbo on my toyota 3y motor it is not a cheap way to get more hp but will give you what you want if you spend some time on it. ive seen a turbo on a g16a looked like it went well. i am running my turbo with lpg but as long as you check into the carbs and make sure they will take the pressurized air then id say go for it. check out the compression ratio of your motor ive been told that you dont want the ratio to be 10:1 or over my motor stock is 8.8 which should be good. spend a bit of time on the net searching and seeing other peoples setups. do a build up thread on here with picks so people can give you some advice along the way.

you wanting to do a blow thru system i take it, tricky to setup and get right, unless these carbs were turboed to start with,
injected would be easier but you will have to muck around with the computer to get mixture right
cheers

Standard G-series suzuki motor+boost=
BOOM!
Unless it is a twin-cam G13B, in which case boost away

I had a play around with quad carbs off a gxr1100 on a 1600cc Escort for a customer years ago (well I built the inlet manifold anyways

) He had problems with fuel delivery

The bike carbs didn't like being feed fuel at pressure other than gravity pressure. I think he got around it with a surge tank in engine bay and gravity feeding the carbs. Not before he had a rather large fire tho

Food for thought

Interested as to why you'd want to use gsxr 600 carby? I would think it would be way to small for a 1600supercharged engine?
Surely a carby off an 1.8-2L engine would be a better size?
And probably built for more low down torque and idle than a motorbike carby which would be more for high airspeed smoothness?
I could be way-off here, but just ideas for you

Using the 600 carby as that is what is recommended by the guy who makes the intake manifolds in the US. They supply the intake manifold, water manifold, and maybe jetting for the carbs.
I drove to welly and back (to Ohakune) in the weekend and had to put 10L of oil in the MF. Did some checking and found the fuel pump is leaking.
Probably at this stage will stick with the 8 valve, so GSXR carbs look likely.
We will probably fab our own manifolds for the GSXR if we go that way.
Here is the link to the GSXR guy in the US.

More info to come.

Zukmeista,
Why BOOM? Why not with the 13B? Is it because the 13B pistons are forged?

I am assuming I will need a new fuel pump that is boost referenced and maybe an upgraded return line diameter.
Yes it is blow through, not draw through.
Most GSXR set ups seem to go onto G13a, but should be adaptable for G16a.

Yes, the G13B has full forged internals. If you rebuilt a motor with forged internals it might work but otherwise boom.

Is that Boom above a certain boost pressure, or boom with any Psi? Obviously risk increases with boost, but are there some minor measures that can be made in order to prevent Boom?
Who makes forged internals in NZ?, are there some from another engine that can be moved into a G16?

If you lowered the compression ratio it would help. As far as forged internals, go and talfk to someone who rebuilds motors for a living, they should be able to help you. Here are some links that might be helpful.

Thanks, will do. Lowering the compression is usually done by shimming the head where the head gasket is, right? I will check my compression, and go from there.
Initially I will install and set up the carbs, get them working right, and then do the S/C.

Yes, either that or pistons with a bigger dish in them.

What flow rate is the stock mechanical fuel pump?

Can a G16a 8 valve carb head fit to a G13B bottom end?
That way the bottom end would be strong for boost, and the top would have the displacement for torque?

Your theory is backwards. The longer stroke of the 1600 gives the extra torque. I'd just use a complete G13B.

There will be no boom so long as you control your fuel and timing properly. Modest increases in horsepower (say 50-75%) are not going to cause engine internals much worry at all if you are not detonating, pre-igniting or getting ridiculous combustion temperatures.
This is the main reason why I'd never bother with a charged carb setup. EFI it. I've put a megasquirt and single point injection setup on mine, simple as and I've never looked back. It is just so much more reliable now. With a decent knock sensor and wideband O2 sensor you're away, and you'll be able to build a reliable, powerful G13. Carbs are a pain in the arse for offroad vehicles -- they don't work on angles, and they are completely intolerant of dust/debris in either the fuel or air supply.
Mine is getting an SC12 soon, but it keeps getting pushed behind other projects.....

Hedgeboar,
Interested in seeing some pics and details of your setup.
