hilux ALTERNATOR wiring LN106 PLLLEEEAASSEEE HELP

Post by vinceparts »

having a few problems with my alternator lately, the past few days its been coming on and off charge, ive replaced brushes about 3 months ago , then 2 weeks ago after a woodhill trip the brushes had mud in them and siezed up so freed them up and now it charges then will randomly stop charging while driving...

now since ive owned th etruck 3 lights on the dash have been on,
1st one is the charge light
2nd is the water in diesel one
3rd is timing belt light

now when the alternator stops charging all these lights go..

also the relay (i assume) for the glow plugs flickers sometimes on and off sometimes while driving , this seems related to my problems as it doesnt glow when alt isnt working

Sounds all alternator related...
I had a car which when the alternator went out all the dash warning lights came on for everything else other than the alt charging light....

Also it would pay to check all the wires on the battery feeds to alternator...
Remove, clean contacts and install again. Check crimp terminals are good.
Also check the earths from engine to chassis to battery....etc etc

Some may cringe but giving the alternator a good squirt with the hose while its running gives it a good clean.....No different to a river run....
Let it idle for a bit to dry out..

If it still plays up, might need to remove alt and take it a shop and get them to spin it up on a test rig....

Its easier to whip it out and take it to a auto electrician, most will spin her up on the test bench for free.....
Call one first to check.....
You can check the diodes yourself....
Brushes, field windings etc etc but a rectifier will either work or it wont....
Google how to inspect an alternator....
A good car manual shows you how also.....They are pretty much all the same...

That sort of thing sounds like a bad/loose connection somewhere.

I vote for checking all earths etc

My guess is faulty voltage regulator.
They have a external reg that is attached to the drivers side above the mudguard.
Get a loaner reg test it and see :D

i believe you are right, went for a drive this arvo to muriwai to check that gannet thing out as soon as its getting dark charge gets lost, so while the gf is in the truck i wiggle shit around till she sees the charge and the stupid warning lights come up and as soon as i wiggle the wires from the round plug on reg to the reg box it gets charge back so i believe this is fucked, lucky coz ive gotta wait a week or twofor a shipment to get to the place up the road, they want 75 ish for it, can anyone hook me up with a new or good second hand one, trademe doesnt seem to be the answer here
