KZN185 Front Hub Removal

Post by kow1 »

My ’97 surf seems to have a different bearing setup to the one shown in my HiLux manual – A single sealed bearing as opposed to the normal 2 tapered bearings. There seems little information on the net as to how service these things.

Am right in thinking:
To remove the CV’s and driveshaft’s, remove the drive shaft retainer and nut, unbolt the CV inner from the diff and move it away, push out the driveshaft from the hub – maybe with a puller between hub and driveshaft?

Alternatively, to remove wheel bearings, remove the drive shaft retainer and nut, callipers, discs. Remove circlip that retains the wheel bearing outer race. Assume the inner race is pressed onto the hub and outer race just pushes into the steering knuckle? Remove hub with puller onto driveshaft. Replace bearing in a press.
Is the above correct and if so when it is re-assembled, how do you correctly tighten the centre driveshaft nut into the hub?
Cheers

Have you got the factory service manual for your model? If not, there is a 96-02 4runner FSM here - http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html. It would be american spec but probably mostly the same
