Help Needed: Storage in Rotorua and possibly tow.

Post by icekayak »

I'm looking for a bit of help guys....

My Terrano was stolen a few weeks back and recovered damaged, it was towed to the tow yard (view road, rotorua) where it has sat since. The insurance company said it would be a writeoff, however unfortunately now they are not playing the game and have declined the claim. We are fighting it, and I have some very good claims people on it, but unfortunately if we don't get it overturned I'm up for three weeks of storage fee's and the towing costs which is over $750 as it sits today.

I am not sure how long it will take to review the claim, and we will be taking it to the very end with the insurer but all of this may take time, and at the end of it, should we loose I don't want to be stuck with a huge storage fee. I should know by Monday if my initial appeal was successful, but if its not i'd be pretty keen to get it out of the storage yard asap.

The catch is i'm in auckland, and don't have a trailer (though could possibly borrow one) and don't have anything suitable to tow it with.

The truck has been written off, but could possibly be towed a very short way (would be dodgy), but could not be driven as it looks like the bumper has been pushed into the radiator etc. I am not sure if one of the front wheels has been pushed back etc also.

The truck has a few decent bits and pieces on it I wouldn't mind grabbing especially if i'm not going to get anything out of the claim (yellow top optima battery, 31 at's, rear lsd, manual front hubs, cd player, lifted springs and shocks, aftermarket exhaust etc) before selling the rest as a wreck. Motor did run well (TD27TDI r50 terrano) so I guess there is still a little bit of value in the wreck.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I had thought in the short term if I can just somehow get it out of the tow yard and just stored somewhere, then at least I won't be racking up more storage costs whilst we work on the insurance company...
