Cant seem to pop out the tapered shaft. didnt really think heat was an option. any ideas? Im thinking my two bolt puller is too twisty, might make 4 bolt 1. but it should still pop out. doused it in crc and will have another go tomorrow. (and yes i have removed rear stay.) Any ideas much appreciated!

I take it you have removed the timing belt pulley.
I used a bar with three holes in it. (was a gear puller but couldn't get it in there)
And used a large bolt to apply pressure to shaft and two long bolts to hold it into the screw holes.
Picture says a thousand words...
You just unwind the nut along the bolt and for me it just popped off....

The pulley doesn't come off. Loosen the nut and hit it hard with a big hammer. You have got all the bolts undone that hold the pump to the engine housing & removed the support bracket and fuel lines etc?

The cam belt pulley is held on by four bolts...
Remove those and get the pulley out the way.. Use the attach holes for the pulley to push off against.
That's how it is done in the engine manual from Toyota....
It also gives you more room.....

From memory when it was loaded up I gave it a small rap with a hammer....
So you have removed the stay at the rear completely and the two bolts at the front.....
Keep trying it will eventually pop...Maybe load it up and leave it overnight.
I had a ball joint which wouldn't move.. Loaded it up on a gear puller, went for a coffee and when I came back it was all on the floor apart...

I didn't remove the pully as you lose your cam timing & then need to re time. But hey that's up to you.

That's why you time the engine so all the marks line up....
And get out the marker pen............before you start pulling it to bits....
Not hard really........

cant get the pump off without removing the pulley. as its on the front, and pumps on the back. so... and timing is easy. not worried about that. ive had these off before, so its just being stubborn, left it under pressure tonight and poured boiling water on case around it before going back inside, hopefully expands it enuf and it falls out. hears hoping.

As the man said, There is no need to remove the pulley, If you have to remove the pulley then it is not a 1kz motor. You have to remove the pulley on L motors. Z motors the pulley is attached to a gear that drives off the crank and dives the oil pump & vacuum pump. If your really clever you dont even need to remove the cover, but you look a real dick when you drop the nut & you can't see the keyway when your putting it back.

you guys are right, didn't need to remove the pulley. but easier access and all that and whatever. haha. its off already. anyway here's a pic of my puller set up. havnt had time to look at it for a few days. had an hour or so tonight. as soon as the pumps out, its getting sent away. going manual pump. gonna start a build thread. it should keep me motivated. tried giving it a whack with the copper hammer but didnt budge. although rad still in so wasn't a massive hit.
