Time to scratch an XJ itch...

Hi all..

New member here, been driving a few 4x4s over the years having just sold my 3rd surf i need to scratch the itch of an XJ. like most on here i have been doing a heap of reading\veiwing american forums etc about the Xj's and there is some great info out there.

Im chasing a wagon that is just going to be a weekend wagon really, i have a work vehicle for most of my round town running. Thinking that id like to get a low km (ish) model around 160kms and spent a bit doing it up.

Been looking at the OME kit with grand cherokee springs in the front so i can put 31's on, but do i still need to cut the guards for full clearance ? The guys at G Guy motors in welly have said it should be sweet but just want to check with the local crew on here ?

I guess also if anyone ones of a suitable wagon out there id be keen, doing the standard trademe thing of course to :D Im keen to get the boys at G Guy to check it over before i buy, but are there any standout things that you know of to look out for ?

Once i get the jeep, i will start a photo thread of the upgrades. just standard stuff really but always fun to see what others are doing. (lift, tyres, snorkel, bar, lights)

Anyways, looking forward to coming a regular on here

cheers
wellyranger (steve)

so it seems finding a tidy jeep then doing it up is going to be rather pricey. most people wanting around 4k for a tidy model.

then add $2200 for a lift(OME), $1500 for tyres etc etc

think i might be leaning more towards buying one all ready done up... hmm.. :D :D

There is an XJ for sale at the Whakorongo Wreckers just out of Palmerston North heading towards Napier, nice looking Blue with Mud tires on it already, has got a $3000 tag on the window. Looks quite nice but I haven't had a close look.

hey ya, had G Guy Motors put the ome 2 inch lift on mine couple years back and fit 31x10.5 maxxis muds. i had set of positive(wheels stick out) offset rims and they had to do a little bit of trimming within the front guard to stop the rubbing. small amount of rubbing on rear when tyres were brand new but bugger all as once they had worn a couple of mm there were no worries.
think ome do a soft and medium rear spring set, i went for medium but they still sagged a bit when carrying a load and after a year, took it back and they added an extra leaf at no cost to me to correct it.

Well just ordered my lift and snorkel today..

Going with the old man emu option, trying to get enough lift to fit 31's under her. have been told by shop it will be sweet using zj coils up front and bigger leafs at the back to sort. time will tell i guess !

Will no doubt play around with a 15x 7 and 15x 8 rims also

Will post some before and after pics once sorted next week :D

Glad you found one, Steve. I wish I hadn't promised mine to the guy who's pimping it out, it sounds like you're just who I really wanted to have it.

Thanks Fen, you did have a mint wagon !

My plans changed slightly, put in a 3 inch rough country lift kit and 31's. has worked out very well so far. Just cut out cat converter last weekend also, so slowly bringing the old girl upto spec..

Will post a pic once i figure out how..

Cool. Keen to see pics. I'll always have a soft spot for the XJ even though I don't have the need to own one.
