BJ Gearbox into FJ

I know of the coarse/fine, longer/shorter issues with the shaft between diesel and petrol gearboxes on 40 cruisers, the question is can the shaft from one be transplanted into other? As I understand it the internals are the same - how much the same?
cheers

im not 100% sure on this but i think the gear ratios are quite different in gearboxes behind b series diesels to allow for the fact that they only rev to 3500rpm max so perhaps a gearbox out of a hzj7* might be better?

Are the two input shafts the same overall length? I never measured the two I had but if they were is there any reason you couldn't just get the right spline clutch plate an keep the fine spline input. That said in the bj an fj boxes I had there was a big difference in gear ratios

nah the input shafts are different lengths, about 40mm difference or something like that, I used to have a machined alloy spacer and long dowels etc for hanging a BJ box off a FJ bellhousing, Phil Baylis ended up with it in the end

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have one coming via a customer, I suspect after what I read it may sit in the workshop for them for some time

I will get the measuring sticks out and see if we can do something for him.
