Sony or Pioneer

Post by Heath »

Quick question but which is better?

Supa Chump have stereos for half price and I figured I would replace the factory one for something a bit more modern (bluetooth etc).

Sony one is 200 and pioneer one is 250.

might just have to jump in the cheaper direction.

Won't go wrong with either, I prefer Pioneer but my reasoning is only because I don't like Sony display.

had the same problem when i went in last weekend to grab one for the mrs. I bought the sony because well it was cheaper. Haven't been dissapointed. They are great for a truck because you can chuck all your songs on a usb stick and not have to worry about shagging all your cd's from the bumps.

i like those ones that are starting to come out with SD card slots as i think they look tidier than having a USB stick poking out of the stereo but i have only noticed them in the cheaper brands at the moment

I put a Sony in the zuk and regretted it as the EQ settings were very limited .
I would get the one that matchs your speakers best

normanross has been advertising car audio sale all day on the radio so shop around. These guys http://www.jbhifi.co.nz seem pretty cheap as well.

pioneer have two in my work ute and safari sony X load sucked power on memory generaly poor to pioneer
ute came with a kenwood it would just shut off at anytime. to get to turn on again had to turn ign off and restart the ute, pulled out fitted pioneer put a axle threw it that fixed it :D

Bugger. seems the sony I bought might not be the best then. Too late. cheap enough and I have decent speakers so I'll hope for the best (got to be better than my current one)

On a side note I will have a factory NZ radio (1.5 din high) for a prado to dispose of. If you have one and hate the band expander and jap writing then give me a yell for a factory replacement (fitted by toyota as this was a signature vehicle).

i prefer sony cause the layout to change options makes more sense to me but thats probably cause thats what ive always used... made similiar mistake a while ago cause there was a sony and a pioneer headunit along with others on sale they were both the same price but the pioneer was reduced further. still wish i got the head unit... at the end of the day unless you going for a boy racer car with subs and amps there's no quam either way.

My choice would be pioneer, I think they have a better bass and mid range, I have had pioneer in my last 8 or so vehicle and never had a problem.

I have had pioneer in the last 3 vehicles I drove and in 2 of the wifes cars, but the price was right and the old one had crap sound anyway. Funny how as I walked out I figured I thought I should've gone back in and paid the extra but hey 50bucks is better in my pocket than theirs.

This one actually talks about a better bass range due to some new bits and I can bang a sub into the back of it to give it some ommph if need be. I have a pair of 6x9 three ways in a box that could be plumbed in if i want to loose some space in the small boot too.

So I have been enjoying the new Sony sounds in my Prado but the head unit has an annoying scrolling message advertising the facilities built into the unit. Great for something on a sales demonstration display but I already bought it and I know what it can do so how do I kill the message?

I set the display to the style I want (Hell it even tells you what the station name is and the name and singer of songs - a bit too flash for me), but after about 5 mins it switches back to the scrolling message (well it flashes from word to word) and the changing message catches my eye while I am driving and is annoying me. Its like the setting i choose is overwritten by this stupid setting.

I know it's a little thing, but like a dripping tap it gets to you after a while.

Press and hold the volume knob till it beeps then keep tapping the volume knob till it shows a setting called DEMO and select on or off. Or at least that's how you do it on my Sony head unit

I'd buy Pioneer over Sony in heartbeat. Seen many a Sony break and I love my Pioneer, its mint and didn't cost much. Has USB for the iPod so will charge it and play at proper levels unlike a shitty Aux input.
