Ok so its to hard to get a complete turbo. So im rebuilding my old one . What i need is the rear turbo housing the exhaust part (cast iron bit)

My turbo is fixable but mine has 2 small cracks where the waste gate valve is. Hopefully some one has a stuffed turbo but a good housing

Hey mate, where in NZ are you?

ask around some turbo/exhaust shops, I know some of them often keep a few old turbos when they do upgrading

hey my ct26 had the same cracks. they don't have any impact on the spool up or the way they run. You'd be amazed how many trucks have cracked housings without knowing.
Only become a problem if you're running higher boost and after performance.
Just chuck a kit in it and she'll be all good, just make sure it gets good oil supply

I just thought well it was in bits it might be a good idea to try fix it.
Im not keen on running big boost thru the old girl just wanted a bit more go on the hills as she a slow old girl.

Bought a rebuild kit off trade me today so hopefully have it running by the end of the week. Im going to tee into the oil sender unit for the oil feed unless someone has a better idea?

Rebuild kit done turbo back on intake pipes all done and truck is running :D Just a small oil leak to sort

Its running 10.5 psi and goes ok but thought it would have gone a little better up the hills. Maybe the tyres are slowing it up it use to go a lot better when it had 31s on it. Allso we havnt touched the injector pump yet. The 2h only has a very small rev range. maybe im asking to much of it but i havnt driven a turbo 2h befor so i not sure what to expect

when is it reaching full boost? Do you have a bigger exhuast?
Wont make it a rocket ship should just let it hang on better on hills.
With that turbo should only need a 1/4 - 1/2 turn. Should have some smoke off boost but none at full boost.

Also unless the turbo is of a vx then it will be a bit on the small side so don't expect massive gains just as said make it better on the hills.

I think full boast is around the 2500rpm mark as not much seems to happen after this. And it has a 2 1/2" exhaust on it.
Turbo is off a 1986 VX that i bought for the diff locks

It split the hose from the turbo to the intake yesterday i knew this would happen as it was just tempery till i get the proper hose

New hose today and i whiped up new pipe work for turbo to intake.
Its going a shit load better than it was yeasterday so once the pumps done it should be sweet

Will upload pics once camara is charged

Just looking at the last pic of your oil drain, it looks quite low is it above the full oil tide line? If not you may want to make it higher otherwise youll run into problems down the track. :D

i was going to make it a bit higher but thought it woul have been harder to put the sump bolts in. I didnt think it would n=be a problem as it higher than the sump with the drain being alot higher if you know what i mean. Do you think i should re do it??

i would redo it.
i can't see the oil level ever being lower than that pipe.
you should be able to put it right up under the sump bolts.

ok resized it. this is still an L series but you get the idea of how high up oil return needs to be. oil returns MUST be above sump oil level and extra height is advantage if you drive it at steep angles.

found a better pic of stock turbo drain on the 2lt. you can see its well above the sump.
