Pirongia 4WDF Safari. A great trip, wide range of scenery and challenges.

About 80 trucks plus support trucks which meant a bit of waiting at times when there was a delay up front, but that aside an awesome trip indeed.

Enjoy.

Yea badnuz, blue FJ had the 4WD Action photographer in as Passenger on the Sunday I think.
Some unwanted noise in the video a couple of times of my rear arb locker's blown o-ring yet again and the compressor working overtime, getting fixed on Thursday.

Was gonna ask what that noise was, didn't even think of the locker, track looked like it wasn't needed......vids and photo's can be deceiving to how the terrain really is :D

Yes compressor and locker have been a bit dodgy for a while, hope it gets fixed properly this time. I think they have had the rear diff out twice looking at it, plus changed the air intake for the compressor to a large hose across to the engine air filter.

Sometimes downhill I flick the rear locker in, it seems to help hold it back a bit. No traction control or hill descent and Auto, ABS sometimes kicks in downhill and does weird things so rear locker seems to help when it is slipery.

I should pull the fuse on the ABS on tracks like that but always forget until its too late.

Bad luck Coxsy.
Sunday had some good terrain and a few challenges up until the last track we went into at 3pm sunday, we turned off the road into it the Rotary bloke on the gate said it would take an hour to do, however a series of events made it 3½hrs instead and left a lot of very upset people stuck in the forest track not knowing what was going on up front.

A tough truck on that last track popped a tyre in a deep mud hole and they had to fix that and get him cleared, then a more capable truck towed a Suzuki and took the wrong line and the Suzuki ended up on its side. Then there was a Kia Sorrento (Which should never have been there) that got towed through every mud hole and at one point someone hooked a rope to him and onto the truck behind that was just a little stuck and never told the Kai driver he took off and the truck behind almost hit a tree from what we were told, but a lot of hearsay along the line of trucks.

bit too often non-suitable 4x4s are on these trips, the organisers and scrutineers should send them away.. .at mahia we had Rav 4s, Hiace VANS.... they always become liabilites....

I broke a rear OME Shock on the Friday night at 5pm, 2 hrs later two new shocks on the truck thanks to Ashley and we got down there at about 9.30pm with a slowish trip out of Auckland. Shaft inside the shock broke off:-(
