So I got a SJ413 (off road only) with the usual carburetor and poor ignition problems. Iv removed the head together with TBI from my old blown G16a (chucked a leg out of bed). Head looks ok, no crash marks even though number 4 piston has been doing its own thing.
Hopefully this combo will work. But have some probs.
1 I assume I need the timing belt from a G13a
2 Witch head gasket set do I get? The 1300 and 1600 have different part numbers. Again I assume that I need the 1600 set, as I won’t be using the fuel pump that runs off the 1300 head.
3 Is there an over fueling drama looming? Feeding the 1300 enough gas to run a 1600.
4 I will be getting professional help with the wiring.
Yeah so I’m up to buying bits stage $18 timing belt from Sayco. $118 head gasket set Super Cheep. BNT is the most expensive.
If this project is not going to work I could put my money towards fixing my original 1300 shit.
What do you guys think?
Cheers MIKE.
G13a block with G16a head.
Re: G13a block with G16a head.
Nice idea, usually they build the bigger block with the smaller head for more compression but am talking 1300/1600 ford escorts 3k head on a 4/5k block etc. dont think its worth the fk round but apparently can be done.

Better off rebuilding these with an adaptor kit and slapping your head on.
Or bolting in the g13a twin cam, they sound fun.
In summary my 2c NO.

Re: G13a block with G16a head.
Yeah but on a budget. Trying to use what I got to get me going.
Have done more research and comp ratio should be the same. Will get bigger valves with the 1600 head, slightly more torque, and rid of the dodgy carburetor. May need to swap over top cam sprocket.
Still need to know what head gasket to use. Will disassemble the 1300 in the truck tomorrow.
Should tell me more. Hope.

Re: G13a block with G16a head.
On a budget fair enuf, be keen to hear how you get on. Personally beware of budget builds, they can cost almost as much as a decent/standard 1 by the time you add up the recipts..
Good luck with it anyway

Re: G13a block with G16a head.

The two heads side by side. Had to change over the top cam sprocket as teeth have different profile.

Finally after a week of holiday TBI / head on the block. Should all go sweet from here. Iv got 1 more week off holiday to go. Was also going to swap out the transfer case for a SJ410 item but ill run out of time and energy.
Everybody likes photos aye. Cheers MIKE.
Re: G13a block with G16a head.
if you can squeeze the fuel tank in there life will a lot easier, has the intank pump n prob return lines in the lid. You cld even trace the wires from your donor to the ecu/ ignition, label any sensors in the 1.6block n match/swap to the 1.3. But from the looks of it you have it under control.

Re: G13a block with G16a head.
I have a hybrid motor and have done the swap here is some info.
Hybrid Motor Parts Match
Which ever block you are using. (Use that head gasket)
When using a1.6 Head on a 1.3 use this Distributor combination:
1.3 Dizzy
1.3 Dizzy Housing
Press the 1.6 Dizzy Drive Gear off the Cam and install the 1.3 Dizzy Drive Gear or you will have premature wear of the Dizzy.
Note:
There is a difference in length of the gears. You can tell by looking in the Housing Bore. The gear will look like it is extended too far in the Housing Bore if you have the wrong one.
You will need to use the 1.3 Front Timing Gear on the cam.
If you are going to use the 1.3 intake and a carb you will need a low pressure electric fuel pump.

Re: G13a block with G16a head.
OK. Spent some time trying to use the original Escudo fuel pump in a 10-liter tank but found the steel pressure tube had a split in it. All above-mentioned parts rubbish in favor of a VL commodore fuel pump. Had conflicting reports about needing a low pressure lift pump to supply the high-pressure VL pump. But this pump came from the firewall a mates club truck. So that dispels all rumors that a VL fuel pump can’t lift fuel.
Needing the little bits like inlet manifold sensors that were broken or missing, fuel pipe, sundry brackets, throttle cable reworked. Stuff like that, that I’m most of the way through thanks to Mud Bits.
Sorted Escudo wiring loom (mostly) thanks to posts on this subject on Offroad Express and Google search.
Got a sparky coming around this weekend hopefully, mate of a mate, but he’s really brilliant. So expecting a bit of magic, as wiring seems to be mostly magic to me.
Might need to increase the size of the fuel line between pump and TBI inlet. Both have a larger diameter hose compared to the SJ413. Don’t know. Got other stuff to get on with before sparky time.
No pictures to add to update except this from our recent club champs. Before I pulled it apart.
Cheers MIKE.
