1st time post, got the bug again during the week and decided to start on the 1989 LWB Isuzu Bighorn I have had for a year.

Started with a couple of tidy up items, photo shows grill post repaint to clean up the old flakeing plastic chrome.

Front bumper next to get attention and powersteer seal to replace, just did front pads and C.V. boots during the week.

Next weekend should be tow hooks and then fun time.

By the way its not snowing in Christchurch, just rain in photo.

Klem & I did our 1st winch challenge in Rotorua. Got 20th. Had the cambelt slip a couple of times, blew a CV, a front diff, a rear diff, blew the side out of the electric winch, mangled the front bar a couple of times but still started every stage & had heaps of fun thanks to our awesome support crew.

Cheers

I thought M series motors bolted directly onto Diesel hilux engine mounts? No need to grind off. My motor is in a petrol surf so new mounts were needed

Yep :P Some people grind them off and make new mounts to lower the engine a little but its not really neccessary if you have a body lift.

Is that all ? Good on ya - Klem strikes me as the type of guy that wouldn't be too worried about a few little breakages like that.

The cambelt thing sounds a bit scary. If it slipped too much or broke - would the Lexus be lunched or would it not clash pistons v valves ?

There was probably something else, it's all a bit of a blur :D None of the crew are prone to getting stressed, we just got stuck in & fixed stuff, luckily we had plenty of spares on hand.

The lexus is an interference motor, luckily it only slipped 45 deg out. We'll have to try & seal off the cambelt a bit better as there was crap in there that caused the problem.

Cheers

Glad you enjoyed the event Clint.

I just spent the weekend chasing winch trucks around stages. Started with four trucks and ended up with only one. Bloody hard on trucks these things.

Had great fun pulling a truck out of the night stage. Lots of winching and dragging.

Better get on to cleaning now.

mmmmm........seems I musta been dillusional at the time I sat my M series in the hole that a 2l came out of and even with a 40mm body lift it was ugly high, and mounts were out substantially, if you want a good made to fit job do the mounts otherwise it won't look right, and I know it's not just about looks but do it once, you're happy and its done well, a few hours of work for years of enjoyment :D
