Ajusting the fuel pump - easy to do?

Recently took my 92 Safari (4.2 manual diesel) in for a WOF and was asked if it blew a bit of black smoke and if I'd like them to look at the fuel pump. I said sure, but it only really blows black smoke when I really put my foot down or struggling uphill now.
Got the truck back and it seems to have lost a bit of it's power
Is it easy to play around with the amount of fuel being pumping into the cylinders without special tools (I was hoping it's just a little screw somewhere). And is it something I want to be playing with? (just minor tweaks!) Or it this something I definitely want to be leaving to the experts?

It is easy to do, if no-one posts up I will dig up info on it. Mine is over fuelling because I had to take the top off the pump to replace the gaskets and didn't set it back to the same spot. It is the nut on the back of the pump. Will look for pictures or you could search my posts to find the article.

Hi curly12, thanks for that - good to know! I did Google it, but my auto-Google-search skills aren't the best it seems as didn't find anything helpful. Probably just poor keyword choice.
Been searching for a photo to show me which nut to adjust, but no joy yet. I'm a bit green so wanted to be 100% sure before playing with anything!

Ok, I've taken a photo top and bottom of the fuel pump (unless I'm really embarrassing myself here and taken photos of something completely wrong!). Is the bolt anything obvious showing on these photos?

North New Brighton - close enough for me to pop around and you point a finger at the bolt in question?

Ah... just noticed you're in Rangiora.

Cheers for the offer - much appreciated. May take you up on that if I'm not feeling confident I'm playing with the right thing!

Working over in Lincoln at the moment.

Thanks nismo26 - very handy, much appreciated! I'll have a play tomorrow when the light is a bit better.
Any suggestions regarding adjustment increments to make? 1/8 turns, 1/4 turns etc. I'm guessing I only need to make a very minor tweak.

You don't need to alter the screw much at all, be carefull, try 1/8 of a turn at a time, and remember, winding it IN gives more fuel.

Thanks Dak - much appreciated. Figured I'd do a small increment a day to see what difference it makes.
Thanks again everyone for all your help - legends! Always suprises me how generous and helpful people can be on these forums
