Hi, am new to this site. Have a 1996 1.7 Cossack which was running fine until Saturday. It just stopped, mid-Uturn, and though it turns over fine, won't fire. The guy who is looking at it says I need to replace the distributor ignitor?? Not really sure what this is but would be VERY grateful if anyone has any ideas.

I'm assuming it's modern equlivent of a coil. I trust you've found Gee Motors in Napier; they should be able to sort you one.

Thanks guys. Yep, Gee motors had what I needed.
Just have to get it through a warrant now! Quite a bit of play on the steering but not something that can be adjusted out apparently....

The VIRM (
the rules for WOFs) says that the amount of play a manufacturer specifies is fine. Have a look in the manual - the amount Lada specify is larger than most WOF guys expect these days (
and I've had to take my manual in before to proof this).
Having said that, the steering box is adjustable and can be tweeked up if it is out.
