safari, patrol, grandroad.
big NISSAN badge, small one.
wide back seat, small one
electrics, wind up windows
12volt, 24volt
pto, or not.
there seam to be a few different combinations of the above of the y60 safari. Is there anything to avoid when looking to purchase one, or does it not make much difference which model I end up with?
cheers, Tom.

Re: safari differences..
Me personally - I'd go with the Granroad (As opposed to the AD, basic model - manual windows, no AC etc etc) 24v with a PTO and some have factory rear lockers
There is also the 'Kingsroad', which i believe only came out in long wheel base, high roof (I could be wrong) - luxury model with leather interior...
Just my opinion.

Re: safari differences..
As above its basically a preference.
Safari AD - Base Model Vinyl flooring, Wind up windows, Some have no rev counter, No A/C, Very basic interior, 24v
Safari - Slightly better specs to the AD but not as nice as the grandroad
Safari Grandroad - Carpet throughout, A/C, Stabi Disconnect, electric windows, Option's: PTO (88 - 90), electric winch (91+), Difflock, 3 types of rear seats (Full, Full Split, Small with boxes on the sides), Brown or Grey interior, Facelift from 1992+. SWB and LWB, Low or highroof, rear A/C
Safari Kingroad - 1992+, SWB or LWB, Low or High roof,
Safari Grandroad - Carpet throughout, A/C, Stabi Disconnect, electric windows, electric mirrors, etc, Options are the same as above, only come with Electric Winches, 24v, Leather interior, rear A/C
Patrol ST - 12V, interior similar to the Grandroad More like the 1988 - 1990 Safari's, Most have difflock, no rear A/C, NZ New
Patrol SE - 12v The same as the 1992+ Safari Grandroad. No rear A/C, and most have diff lock. NZ New
Patrols dont have the Rear Stabi disconnect.
There is probably something I have missed out and others will correct things I may have gotten wrong.

Re: safari differences..
I thought similar to you forge before I bought a swb AD. Had rear sway disconnect, locker, ac, electric windows, rev counter. Was a 93 and completely stock.
Big badge is nz new generally and are seen on earlier models. Small badge is an import. Least thats what I was told.

Hey Surf_tomo,
This is actually registered as a Nissan Safari, courtesy of carjam (Granroad I would say) and either someone has changed the badges over, or possibly had the back door replaced at some stage? And as for the blue oval...wtf? lol.
They are very well mannered on the road, considering their off road capability, thats for sure.... I've had 5 now lol.
Good luck with the search/purchase man

I think your right, and its registered as a patrol 'submodel'. whatever that means. I like how tidy that particular one looks, previous trucks its been a constant battle with the bodywork..

Re: safari differences..
the earlier AD base model may of been a bit more basic but my 94 factory turbo lwb high roof has all the trimmings except for guard flares light window washers. interior is nice fabric and carpeted. factory turbo didnt come out "manual" lwb I believe.
safari spirit was a 2.8 diesel version, so not a real safari IMO but great model for replaceing engine with RB series engines.
is LSD factory on grandroads? cause my AD is open. dont bother me as its the tow wagon
