hey guys been about a year or two since ive been on.sold my surf andv8 hilux a while ago but have just brought a 1980 bj40 for an absolute steal so im looking to get into some easy/lazy offroading as it hasnt got p/s yet but it does have a turbo hanging off it.just have to do some rust repairs which seems relatively normal for cruisers.
can't wait to get out and have some fun.

Welcome along - I am a restart too - but in Blenheim. Relocated from Wellington.

I too have re-equipped with a BJ40 - mine does have power steering. And also a turbo on the B diesel.

What sort of turbo is yours got on it? Mine is some kind of Nissan one..

Mines been fitted with a ihi turbo not sure on model but will check later. Has also had a later model ve type fuel pump adapted to it. What sort of powerstering setup are you running?

Mine has 60 series power steering ... came with it when I bought it, all certified and everything.

So the box sits inside the chassis at the front? A old friend of mine said that i might be able to use a chev steering box and it will mount on the outside of the chassis so i can still run a full width drum on my pto winch. Could prove to be expensive. I think i will be building a new cage before i get powersteering

Can't picture it in my head right now, but I am replacing the shackle bushes so I will take some pics tomorrow.

I have a PTO winch also - not sure of the drum width.

Sweet as mate my winch takes up the whole gap between the chassis rails on the front must have 60m of line on it. Dont really want to go cutting it up if there is an alternative may need the whole 60m one day when im really stuck.

Had to rotate it to make it fit - either turn your head or save it and rotate it.

the cruiser boxes mount on the outside of the chassis not the inside, 60 or 70 series boxes are easy conversions onto 40 series cruisers. I've got a chev saginaw box here that I pulled off my cruiser but it didnt make a very good conversion the way it was setup

Thanks for the info guys helping heaps just trying to get a list of parts together while im cutting and welding the body.what shaft is the best to use? Same one as the box and get the 40 coloum shaft splined to match?

I've only ever done a 70 series box conversion. Splined the steering collum (left it as long as possible) and joined onto the 70 series collapsable shaft with a toyota starlet 14mm to 14mm steering UJ, 60 series stuff would probably work out pretty simular and be the right length collapsable shaft?
