Hi guys,

I'm currently living in Melbourne and am planing to move back to Christchurch towards the end of the year. I'm currently driving a 92 200TDI Defender Trayback with a tipper. I haven't had the truck too long and have just had a Road Worthy Certificate (similar to WOF) done and it past quite easily, only a few niggly things needing to be fixed. It's only done 270k km and doesn't leak any oils. It pulls really well and I'm quite happy with it.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth while bringing it over to Christchurch with us when we move back. I've had a look on Trademe and the like, but can't seem to find many 110 Traybacks.

And also if I were to bring it back, does anyone know what processes I'd have to go through to get it on the road once it arrived?

Read the NZTA rules regarding importing and also re emissions very carefully.
Unless you have resided overseas and owned the vehicle for long enough you may have problems getting it through compliance for use on NZ roads as it will not pass the strict emissions standards NZ has imposed on used vehicles into the country.

If you have owned it long enough or meet the criteria for special circumstances then by all means bring it back with you. Defenders in good condition are hard to find, even more so the 200tdi models.

Just make sure you do the home work before hand otherwise could be an expensive exercise for something you can't register in NZ.

Thanks for the info. I had a look at the NZTA site and found a few things a little confusing, so I will give them a call during the week and talk to them about it.
