Can anyone please advise the best mounting for tow hooks on the back of my 1989 LWB Bighorn.
What I need to know from those who have had to utilise them in the past is whether I need two on the back or is a centre mounted single OK?
Also I have one rated hook at the R/H front is there a need for hooks both sides?
Hopefully it doesn’t sound like I intend to get stuck, but I would like the opinion of those who have been there before.
I have included a link to a photo of the rear setup on mine so if you need to know what’s there now it’s available.

Single tow hooks on either side are fine... as long as there rated.. By lookin at ur pictures i would proberbly put the rear hook on the side of the tow bar either between or just below those 2 bolts. You will how ever need to weld a steel plate there to add extra strength to the support. It would also pay to check the tow bar mounts (to the chassis) and make sure theres no rust or cracks. The hook it self will have to be welded (on a angle pointing slightly down to avoid rippin your bumper off!!) on as well as bolted.. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass but it will only take about an hr 1/2 to do and is better to over kill than it is to have the hook snatched off. As far as the front... If it is a factory i would check the rating as they are not very stong at all and the rating is under club requirements..If it is.. it's just a simple replacement.. altho you will have to redrill the holes to fit your new 10.9 rated bolts.
Hope this helps..

Read the recent christchurch training day post its got some good hook gen in it. I'd be making proper mounts in line with the chassis rails. use those side plates the towbar is mounted to as a starting point but make sure they are beefy and secure.
Also beware of mounting the hooks facing down... enevitably when you are being recovered you're in a hole, meaning the pull is up - you could end up pulling nearly sideways on the hook, which will damage the bumper anyway by ripping the hook off and tearing it through the bumper

LH side is always good
If anything lets go the theory is you can watch whatevers coming flying at you go through the passenger side of the vehicle instead of the part where your sitting
