Fj40 Handbrake

Hey guys
I've just put a H55 gearbox into my truck, upgrading it from the stock 4 speed. The handbrake setup on the old box was on the driveshaft, in the form of a drumbrake. That's gone.
What I need is to make up a new handbrake using the rear drums, or by upgrading those drums to discs. I've seen conversion plates in the states, but those are for american monte carlo style rotors so I'm buggered if I know what the japanese equivilent is.
Any ideas fj40 fans?

You could fit a BJ40 fully floating rear diff in which has the handbrake on it and also fit a BJ40 handbrake setup to it. The fully floater can be easily fitted to discs also if you wanted discs on the rear.

Is it the same dimensions as the fj40 diff?

yep but make sure you find one with the handbrake on it coz not all 40 full floaters have them, I think the 4 bolt backing plate ones do and the 8 bolt backing plate ones still had the handbrake on the gearbox

This is correct but the eight bolt ones only came out factory in the FJ45s 80-84.

Not meaning to but in... but...
My 1980 BJ40 has the cardan shaft handbrake just aft of the g/box, just a bigger version of that on a SJ413 zuk...
Did all BJ40s come with full floaters?

yep no handbrake, Monte Carlo Calipers arent really very common in NZ if available at all although they are supplied in the kit and the brackets are welded and I dont know if thats certifiable here if your wanting to be road legal
probably better off using some callipers with handbrake levers that are readily available in NZ

theres an option of using a bj74 diff and moving the spring mounts in to suit a 40 that way hand brake cable is standard and the drums etc are all standard
plenty of parts around as well and it you got a semi floater diff peolpe are jusrt about giving them away
piss easy moving the mounts as well as long as you cen access a welder
just thought i would throw that idea out there

Ive got the brakets here for the subaru calipers, Ive always used the early solid front hilux rotors but you can use the vented cruiser rotors.
