Can someone tell me why people, when putting the radiator in the rear, mount it on an angle (I'm thinking it's for air flow? ). Going to do mine soon so just want to get things right.

Radiator in the rear

Re: Radiator in the rear
Mines all but lying down flat, but that is to do with space and not wanting it sticking up to far. Most of the angled ones seem to just follow the rear cage braces for ease sake. From what I read with off road only trucks you are relying on the fans for airflow rather than the airflow that may come from the truck racing down the road.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

works well on slower trucks , faster trucks need to have air directed at radiator on the rear ,as it tends to go over the roof and miss the radiator completely , and pump needs to circulate coolent faster

maybe why ? winch comp type trucks run very hot in faster races , just my 5c worth

Yea what Jim said, when going slow/in low range its sweet (provided theres decent fans attached) but when on open road they start getting hot, unless theres a way of directing air into front of rad. Thats the case for mine anyway, ive got a scoop to direct the air into rad at road speed and its been sweet since. Airlocks can also be a pain... Good luck

Re: Radiator in the rear
Perhaps a small rad at the front to catch air when doing hi speed stuff, an electric water pump to get things moving and a large rad at the back with fans? Of course a rad at the front is a pain and subject to damage etc hence the shift to the rear.
Re: Radiator in the rear
I have now tested my rear radiator a few times and once I got the minor leak sorted it works mint. It sits just on thermostat opening temp when idling for extended periods or thrashing it in mud holes, dragging patrols etc (as in full revs and no movement.) When moving, because the grill is still open the temp drops about 5*C. It is the same rad i was running in the front, now lying in tray, factory engine pump an 2 12inch fans of unknown origin. Piping is same size as motor inlet/outlet.
from what I have seen I would say the honda radiator with is fans will be fine
