Toyota Hilux 8" broken diff heads wanted.

Post by churchill »

I'm putting a couple of Hilux axles under my truck and have purchased new ring and pinion and air lockers for the diffs. All I need now are 2 diff head casings with the matching bearing caps.

Does anyone have anything lying around?

Thanks for the offer, I've just ordered bearings and solid spacers so really only need the casings.

there are two different types of housing,
the larger crown wheel fit the early housing
79 -85, this is offset 3mm more than the newer housing, also the bearing on the carrier is 82mm on the older and 80mm on the newer.
have just been down that road.
check the part number on the R&P before you press the carrier bearing on.
will save you time and money

I've got a dismantled diff head that the crown wheel buggered out on. It was a 4.5 open diff in a 85 hilux can measure the bearing size if need be. If it will suit what you're after, I can bring it up next weekend. Price would be a dozen Macs gold

Thanks, are you talking about the V6 vs the 4cyl diff?

no early carriers are different, when you ordered the aftermarket R&P
it was for a year, V6 carriers are different but have found them the same
as some of our surfs.
check what year parts you have first and bearing sizes

Hmm this is going to be interesting, I've ordered 8" diff parts. There was no option for anything other than 8" or V6...

what brand, and is there a part number.
have just been through this and was a pain in the arse.
i had the Richmond gear 4.88 and it states what year they will fit.
even the guy that sold them to me , did not know there was a different.
