Iv currently got the standard gear driven transfer 2.8 hilux box, and have access to a Manuel v6 surf box ( chain driven)

I was wondering if I will notice a different in my gearing ratios between the two, iv been told the surf boxes are lower geared in low range?

Iv currently got 4.8 diffs and will be running 33's.

Cheers

Standard geardrive TF Case low range is 2.28:1, chaindrive ratio is 2.57:1
1st gear in a G52/G54/G58 is 3.93, low range is 2.28, diff is 4.88, so your crawl ratio with a geardrive case is 3.93x2.28x4.88 = 43.72
Assuming the surf box is a W56, which has a first gear ratio of 3.95,
3.95x2.57x4.88 = 49.53
The Surf box may be a R151f which has a 1st gear of 4.31
or a R150f which has a 1st gear of 3.83

See, simple :D

Thanks for that, ideally I'd like to be traveling at the same spend with less revs in high, and have good crawl speed in low box.

Another reason for going to a surf box is that they are stronger than the 2.8box.
