How Do I check 1KZ Turbo?

Hi

Wanted to do a quick check on the turbo as I have not owned the truck long.
How is the quickest way to check the end of the Turbo? Take the Thermostat off and go in there?

If I wiggle the end of the turbo how much movement is ok and how much means a turbo rebuild?

Thanks

If its on a surf there is a bit of guard that can be removed in the wheel arch, If you can move it and it feels like it is touching the compressor housing that is to much, it will feel like there is more movement than what there actually is a little bit won't matter, back and forth it can have 0.15mm of play.

I thought, you use it until it sirens or blows up  :P
I have checked a few and all of them had more movement than I would of thought acceptable :?

To be honest, i wouldnt bother checking it, its bound to have play in it and then youll just have somthing else to worry about. Youll know when its given up.

Any play up and down isnt good but try and hold it one way and rotate the shaft and see if the compressor wheel contacts the housing. Also try and see if its putting oil through the intake. If it is then it might be a good idea to get it rebuilt as it will only get worse

No as true as you may think. Id be more worried about end float than anything else. You will know if the wheels are hitting the housings, it will either be screaming, or have been screaming and worn the wheels away resulting in no power.
