I am organising a fundraising trip for westown scouts through eight of the road tunnels in North Taranaki. This will also include Mt damper waterfall (New Zealand 2nd highest) and the republic of Whangamomona.

The trip is on sealed and gravel roads and usually takes all day.

Whilst this is organised as a car trip I have taken groups of 4wders on it a number of times.

For more information email me or see http://www.westownscouts.org.nz/tunnels.htm

Nice roads! Ive mountain biked through many of them many years ago. And yes, Ive also driven a car through a lot of that countryside too, can be a bit hard on the car, but still pass-able.

We now have a local researcher who has written about the history of the tunnels coming with us.
She will be providing some of the history of the tunnels as well. So it will be an informative trip as well.
