Toyota 3vz-fe (1995 camry)

Post by Dirtydog »

hey guys having an issue with my daily runner, it has the toyota 3vz-fe in it with a 4speed auto gearbox.

its started making a rattling sound between 1800 - 2600 revs, and only when there is load on the engine (i.e in gear)

does anyone know what this could be? ive tried using thicker oil, (engine has 220000 k's) and that didnt have any effect.

it sounds like its coming from the tappets, but its hard to tell.

also, ive heard that the 5vz cams fit into the 3vz, would this change the performance at all?

hey, my windom did a simular noise, turns out to be the exhaust heat shield. the one at the back of the motor is a pain to get to but that was the culprit for me.

For a shot make sure they both bolted on tight and not rubbing etc.

sometimes on FWD v6's there is a seperator plate inside the exhaust where the two front pipes meet into one that can come loose and make a terrible noise sounds like a death rattle.
