By rights you shouldnt need stronger/tougher cv's with a locker as you should have more traction and therefore be able to do things slower and more carefully rather than using heaps of momentum to get through/ over things

every body that i know that runs front lockers has broken cvs (apart from chrom mollys)
i had never broken a cv until my locker went in then blow 6 in less than 1 month in a total of 4events ( had fun but ) anyway yes locker do mean that you are able to slow down and crawl but only sometimes
back to topic sorry i dont know of any aftermarket stronger cvs for a mitsi

thats all good if its an auto locker that can release and be a bit more forgiving for turning otherwise its crunch crunch crunch
I have been running at front air locker in my 89 SWB V6 for the last 12 months and have not managed to break a CV yet, although i have only been running 31" Maxis Buckshot tyres. I have just brought a set of 33" simex tyres however so this could change..........
I dont have an attitude, I have a personality you can't handle....
mitsi cvs are some of the biggest and strongest factory cvs you can get. Would put the locker in and see how it goes. had one of those pajeros and even with 33s and chains on failed to blow one. was even tring to aswell
tallsam66 wrote:Why not put the locker in the back & an LSD in front
thanks, I've already got a locker in the rear, and with an ifs front I dont think an lsd would really help. My truck tends to lift wheels (as all ifs'ers do!), so either an autolocker or an air locker is the go...

hi crazyclark31 thanks for that, great to know! hopefully the standy ones will do the trick then. is there any difference between the series' of paj's in terms of cv strength/size etc?
Hi Zed I got china Lockers, front and rear plus the compressor, switches wiring etc for well under 2k, so far they havent given me any trouble at all and I have given them quite a bit of a thrashing. Very keen to see how the Simex go on the truck, it is still down the panel beaters at the moment getting the guards cut back so the tyres dont rub so havent had a chance to try them out in anger..... yet

Thanks 1000dollamitzy - where'd you get them from? I found a new arb for the rear and have an arb comp & wiring, are the chino's compatible with the arb wiring? are the lockers in nz or do i need to import them?
you'll love the ETs...awesome...transformed by truck no end! i found a 50mm lift kit the other day about $170 just have to remove the lower rad shroud (just the very bottom lip) so that sounds the go...next step 35's lol
i now only used OE LC CVs and they have been the most reliable by far
I was pricing up going to chrome molly but as a new build is under way i will wait and see how the Y60 handles my driving style as well as the new cheinse air locker that i got off Mike from off the venderers section
if you have not yet purchased its well worth sending Mike a PM and see what he can do for you
There are two sizes of mitsi front cv's, older pajeros were 95mmod on the bell and thats what you get when you buy aftermarket ones as they fit the late model ones to. the 91 on lwb had 126ish mm bells, i have broken alot of genuine and aftermarket 95mm cvs, one lasted one trip from brand new, i think nuts has a video of it breaking. put the old clicky 126mm ones in and couldnt break them even trying to, i run 33"rto1 hankooks. hope this helps

Thanks PajMad...are the 126mm ones also 28 spline on the shaft? Is there a difference in axle shaft length or anything? Which models of lwb did they come off? Ie petrol diesel series II etc. Mine is a series one with a v6 front diff now (low pinion 8")
Just got the locker in so looking for the right cvs to avoid the click click BANG! Lol
i have brought a few cvs through a place called interpart.they used to be by cookes on udy st petone but have since disappeared.they were good units at about half the price of a oem toyota 1.but now i can't find where they have moved to or if they have shut down.anyone know?they were a geat supply of balljoints etc aswell.

they help..you don't know how much untill you have one. I didn't think my mistral or any medium sized nissan had front LSD's, there isn't even an engine code on my mistrals build plate.
But every time we go off roading people ask if i have a front locker as all four lock up when the going gets tough.
It is a bit of a pig though it's on road manners aren't that nice.

Thanks Crash...I've bitten the proverbial bullet and bought an ARB front locker for the truck...so we'll see how she goes on the next outing...cant bloody wait!!

I have a gen 1 Pajero which I would like to put lockers in, so any information on which lockers I can get to fit and where I can get them from would be much appreciated. Its an 89 swb v6 if that affects anything.

RD05 fits 8" rear and RD110 fits 8" front. You will have an 8" front as thats the truck i had to get my front diff from. You will just need to make sure your rear has an 8" ring gear.
Talk to badnuz for a good price on genuine arb. I decided going chino wasnt for me i needed reliability, but others like the cheap stuff so YMMV
Ok, cheers for that Zed, How much do the arb ones cost in comparison to the cheap chino ones? How much work is it to install compressor/controls etc, and most of all is the performance increase worth the cost?
