hey

my fawty has a 2.f in her and as a old engine is getting abit sad,i did a compression test and it rangers from 97psi - 135psi,and did a leak down test and is all coming from the rings,also blows heaps of blue.im thinking
1.put new rings in and valve seals
2.buy a second hand 2.f engine
3.do a 350 chev conversion

i would love the 350 but thinking about moving to oz for a year or more so i wont realy get to drive it and they are very over priced motors,a second hand 2.f engine could also have the same problem or do i just drive mine till it dies!!!!

cheapest and easiest option is 2. but you've got to be carefull coz all 2F's are 30+ years old and pretty worn out these days, my mate rebuilt one for me in the late 90's for just under a grand, rebored, new pistons + rings, crank ground, cam ground, all new bearings, block hot tanked, block decked, reconed oil pump, head skimmed, valve grind and guides and full gasket set but I'd doubt you'd rebuild one for anything like that now, even trying to do new rings you find the whole motor is worn out when you start stripping shit down so its either throw it all back together worn out with a few new parts or start spending some money on it

chev engines are real cheap now but again there all 30-40 years old so you need to make sure you've found one in good nick, the cost isnt in the engine its sticking them in that costs money, a lot of clutches just dont make the grade in 4wds and slip like shit when you try feeding them some fat so you end up having to spend a bit of money on getting a clutch built up with enough clamping pressure to do its job, chevy's and most V8s run pretty hot coz of the V formation and hold a lot of heat so you need some big radiator cooling to keep the temps down, exhaust(s) coz theres 2 of them, bellhousings and adaptor plates and all the other shit that goes with it all starts contributing to burning a big hole in your pocket
