Tyres for a Surf, mainly for on road and river driving.

Post by Militaris »

I am considering getting same larger tyres to put on my 94 Hilux surf, it is without a lift and everything else is fairly standard, due to a annoying warranty I can not life it currently. It is currently on wheels which I suspect are smaller then standard.

I would like wheels which are good to use on the road (Do not have the equipment, skill or motivation to switch between sets), but also good for mainly river bed driving. That means a combination of gravel and larger stone. Think of the large South Island east coast braided rivers.

I also try to drive on gravelly beaches from time to, in this case it is mostly pea gravel. Kind of like the crap which is found at birdlings flat near Christchurch.

Of course on occasion I need to drive through patches of mad and watery crap, also sand, silk.

I would also like to minimize cost. (I would spend more better quality tyres which would last longer then cheaper ones so would work out cheaper in the long term).

Hi, not entirely sure on which size I want. Partly because I do not know what size I can fit without a lift. I am really just after the tyres which would give the best compromise between on and off road use.

It sounds as if you don't really need the the strong sidewalls like the MTR - probably a good cheap option would be Maxxis Buckshot or Hankook RT01. Get the biggest (and widest) you can fit though.
