All cruiser ones go in over the top of the drum, electric & Pto, vs everything else which goes under.

What about buying a pto output unit for the transfercase that has fwd and rev in it.... And just run it backwards to the norm????
Not sure if the worm and gear has a stronger side.....
I am sure someone will advise...

A forgot to mention that there is a shaft poking out each end,so can be driven from either side.

i think you have a reversable pto unit
pull the pto off the box and see if there are two sprockets verse one sprocket on a std unit
now push and pull the engagement lever and turn the output shaft by hand and you will see the sprockets turning in opposite directions
the engagement lever will have three settings middle being neutral
lucky chap as the reversable units are getting hard to find now'a'days

Hi I am talking about the drum direction not the pto gearbox ,shit that would be awesome ,maybe the drum mated up to a reversable gear box in a later life???/.Cheers.

these are the only factory toyots ptos I've seen and the cable feeds off the top of the drum, theres after market ones like thomas, gillies and ramsey etc that have been fitted to cruisers over the years but I dont know which direction the drums wind on those?

are you sure the cables spooling off the bottom of the drum then, the only way it could be doing that is if you've got a forward/reverse pto instead of the standard single direction type?

yep it is spooling in from the bottom, It came with the standard steel frame which bolts onto the front of the cruiser. My other 2 pto,s have only one shaft for driving as this one has a shaft on each side of the flange,so can be driven from either side . has a key way in the shaft.Maybe it was used on the rear of truck, which then would spool from the top/////.ONly guessing.

I gave a PTO to Sig that had a shaft right through it that had front and rear output flanges, it was a forward reverse pto, are you sure you havent got a forward/reverse selectable pto, they have the twin gears in them like the two bottom ones in the pic, the top one has one gear and is a single directon pto
if you need a single direction pto I've got a couple here that I've only kept as spares, I use the forward/reverse ones

HI all ,just pulled out the worm drive on the drum and it is left hand thread, as opposed to the normal right hand ,answers the question of why it spooled in from the bottom.Must have been made for a rear mounted truck. Will Still work on the front of truck if you wanted to spool in from bottom. Cheers.
