So today I head down to VTNZ to get a WOF last 7years she just flys through but today it failed. I was like oh ok what It fail on,and he said you need low volume cert for the tires and lift. I said that's how it came into the country i haven't changed a thing, I thought if he was going to pick anything out it would be the Methanol injection and front mount intercooler, but he didn't say anything about that!, so now I guess I have to go spend 400 dollars or so on cert, not really happy about that!!! So who can recommend some one in chch

Thanks the guy put it all down on the computer so I guess every WOF guy would have it now I can't see how he can do me for bigger tires as on my door as you can read it as 16 inch tires in Japan and its only a 2 inch lift if that

if nothing is modified and only larger springs are put in then according to the virm it shouldnt need a cert. Its only when you start modifying shit that it does. Tyres can only be 5% larger than standard though so Id just throw some little tyres on and take it back

If i were you id go back & demand they do a cpl of things
1.. Tell you where in the VIRM manual it says you need a Low Volume cert for what is a standard vehicle.
2 If they still insist that your vehicle is no longer standard to produce some information that will confirm there stance.
Also as a matter of interest did they give you the warrant last time ....if they did ask why they didnt pick it up last time ..you pay good money for an accurate inspection & last time it wasnt ..so you should be entilted to a refund for the last inspection as it was poorly done.

Sorry to be a kill joy but................... technically these should be certed too.

Apparently anything which increases power needs cert

Tyres don't need to be certified, it's the RIMS that need to be certified, there is a bit of difference there... but I would also tell them to get stuffed, the Nissan Safari/Patrol came out with 16 inch rims. You can lift up to 49mm before the can request a cert as 50mm is right on the edge according to my WOF man.

The WOF guy can say that in his opinion it needs a cert. Go see a cert guy and if he says it doesn't need a cert then the WOF guy has to accept his expert opinion.

new rules are max 100mm including tires if you are member of 4wd association .if not max 50mm .If you are a member and your 4wd is 100mm lifted and you sell it to a non 4wd member you must lower it to no more than 50mm.If you are already certed for higher you are sweet as .So get your cert done soon as .I am trying to pull finger on my prado to get it done before the law change .

i had the same with lowered suspension on a car.
it all came down to how the WOF person interprets the rules. fortunately only took a phone call to a cert guy to sort it.

not quite correct.
Max of 100 mm increase in the distance between the center of the hub and the underside of the unmodified guard will be the maximum that a certifier will be able to certify, unless the vehicle has an authority card issued by NZFWDA.

how will they work that out on a WB holden ute that was never a 4wd mine is lifted about 600 from stock
i dont fall into the 4wd or "club truck " as it never left factory as a 4wd so that rule will not apply to DA UTE

How are they going to know what is a standard difference? No type of vehicle is going to be the same??

Just had mine certed under very similar reasons no change in 6 years to anything on the truck failed on suspension and wheels etc

so i turboed it

and got a cert, i can understand the rule change and to save a lot of hassles in future i have to agree in certing mods. also any engine mod ie turbo, supercharge, transplant means you now have to put on drive shaft hoops on the rear shaft to

So Tony what gives NZ4WD ass the right to see preferential rules for your members. This seems like a way to just fill your pockets with extra member ship dollars ...NZ4WD assn isnt the only recognised 4WD assn in NZ.
As NZ4WD assn is a share holder in LVVTA seems to be insider trading to me.

Tell the VTNZ WOF man he is a cockhole then take it to a workshop where the person doing the check isn't a failed mechanic with a ego problem. Nothing but trouble comes from VTNZ IMO

A lot of work over a 20 year time frame by a lot of different members is what allows us offer authority cards to our members. no different to what Motor sport NZ offer to their members and NZ Hot rod offer to their members. While I do sympathize with members of other associations, this is done via a legal process we cant change, and no matter how much we want to, we cant offer to this to non members. NZFWDA is the only 4wd assn that has put in the effort and finance over a 20 year period to get to this stage.
i think it unlikely that we will profit from this, and if we did, it would go back to benefit all members.

So to have an authority card it will cost you your 4wd ass fee annual fee ($25) plus the application fee ($40) plus the annual renewall fee ($25) ..seems like alot of money is going to be made here.

not really, you price up the insurance that the 4wd Association has and you'll see why they charge what they do.
