1B Toyota

So I have a BJ40 with a turbo-ed 1B diesel.

Am unfamiliar with diesels (this is my first) - should the throttle body and butterfly appear sooty?

All the throttle bodies I have worked with before have been clean and shiny.

Will try and post some pics later on.

Cheers.

It's just blow by from the engine breather , pretty much every diesel will do it.

Hi

If this is anything like a 3B then I think you need to look a bit harder.
The 3B dumps the blow by out a pipe on the side of the engine crankcase. This can be found by climbing under the truck when it is idling and see if it tries to gas you. There can be a bit of smoke in that but that is a different discussion...

Yes I think you have a issue and I guess unless the Blow by is into the turbo I would clean it up and see how quickly it comes back. If it is dirty after a couple of trips I would be looking at the turbo????

Cheers Henry - was gonna give things a clean up anyhow.

Also the turbo wastegate actuator seems to be seized too. So need to have a closer look at that. The bearings in the turbo seem fairly good. No discernible end play in the bearings.
